Default PR3 PISTONS IN LS MOTOR

I have a 90 integra that i just got a new set of rings for b.c its burning oil like crazy, I was gunna throw them in tonite after work, so i thought i would check and see:

I have a set of pr3 rods and pistons, if i put the pr3 pistons on my ls rods, and throw them in will that be good for a little extra compression or will it just not work all together???

i think that your compression would be some where around 11.1:1 with the pr3 but if you find some p30's it would be 11.3:1

well i dropped an extra set of pr3's off at the machine shop as well as a set of ls rods and there gunna put them together for me today, so hopefully tonight ill get it put back togther, last night i pulled the engine apart, and as i suspected the oil rings are stuck insided the pistons and are doing absolutly nothing, i gave it a quck hone, and im ready to put it back togther now!!

Should be an ok motor for being my secondary engine in my teg, now i just have to get my *** in gear to get my lsv project done and it will be even funner!!!!

You will like the PR3's in your LS, Now get some cams to take advantage of that extra compression.

FYI - Set your Piston rings at 180 degree intervals, instead of the Honda recommended 90 deg. Trust me.

Well a buddie of mine had a set of pr3's i picked up last night, dropped them off the machine shop this morning. So hopfully they mange to salvage one out of the set!!!

But ya this is just a temporary motor for in my integra, i wasnt even gunna put these pistons in, it was just a spur of the moment thing while i had it apart because i was doing rings. Im bulding a fairly rank ls-vtec, consists of Eagle rods, arrias 12.7:1 pistons, balanced bottom end, fidenza 7.5lb flywheel, unorthodox .63lb crank pully, S2 pro 3 cams, s2 pro valve springs, titanium retainers, pro series im, pro series 68mm tb,....... lotsa fun!!!

I got it all back together, after a couple little issues, runs great now, no more burning oil, but isnt nearly as peppy as i thought it would be with the higher compression, but its still got stock intake and stock exhaust, and a stock tune, so i will prolly do the obd1 conversion perty quick, and then do the exhuast and build an intake for it this week and se if that will help it out a bit!!

i waited like 2 years to get an aftermarket manifold becuz i thought it was overrated for the price but i got the skunk2 pro series intake mani and it was way worth the money. my LS with pr3 just hauls a$$. my next step is a bigger TB. i used to think they were overrated too for the price but ive been wrong b4.

i'm in this same position, and must know, how much power did you gain? could you tell a difference from the stock pistons? i'm not looking for dyno graphs, but without tune, how did it run? is it a worth while mod or not?

actualy with a b16/b18c5 head its around 11.9:1
with a gs-r head its 12.2:1

My ls/vtec is almost done and im running rs machines 81.5mm pr3 pistons with ctr head but the head was resurfaced and block was slightly milled so its abot the same as a gs-r now 12.2:1.

if the motor is mostly stock itll be around 175whp if tuned right.
I'm hoping to hit right at 200whp on my setup

you seem to be on a different page. i want to know if there is a notable increase in power putting pr3 pistons in a stock ls. stock cams, ecu, tune, just with the addition of pr3 pistons, period. i've heard with a oem 3 layer head gasket compression is bumped up just enough (9.2 to 10.8) to not cause problems with stock ecu. is this true? can i daily drive this set up? any good info is appreciated. thanks.

i understand tuning would be recomended, as would cams and what not. but like i've said, i don't have the money to go that route. if anyone has had a similar bump in compression and survived without harm, please shine your light.

it should increase about 1-1.5 pts of compression. so from the 9's to the 10s. your car will def feel more responsive and perhaps better gas mileage. I think you will be safe w/o tune since your compression is still quite low. maybe about a 10 hp difference and 3-4 lbs of torque.
