Default cams installed...is this normal?

is this normal? after putting in decently aggressive cams (skunk2 pro1) in a stock block h22, my car wont idle. once i started it up, if i didnt rev it up to about 2k, it would just stall out right away. im assuming this is normal since it is not tuned and that they are much more aggressive. the only way we got it to run was by loosening that screw on the tb that controls the idle (we actually took it out) an advancing the distrbutor. after this, it idles roughly at around 900rpm and stalls out about 2/10 times.

i was supposed to get it tuned today, but the weather killed those plans. i should be getting it tuned tomorrow.

if it idled fine before you installed the cams and now it doesnt, you have a problem somewhere. i would figure it out BEFORE you take it to get tuned.

it idles now, after we made those adjusments. i think its because of the basemap that im on. it doesnt make sense that i put in much more aggressive cams and that it wont idle bc of the bigger lobes? what could be the problem if it isnt the basemap? i can drive around fine now as well (not putting more than 20% throttle or past 3k rpm of course)

Double check the cams are timed together, as well as to the crank. I remember mine ran like crap after the install, and it was because one cam was one tooth off (not enough to cause damage, but so it wouldn't idle)

they are right on with each other. the timing markings on the gears were perfectly in line. we checked this after we saw that it wouldnt idle

most likely the tune will take care of all your problems, if advancing the timing helped it not fall on its face, then theres your answer. From what i have read, people who run aggressive cams that dont like to idle often increase the idle timing a few degrees so that the engine has some life to it.

how would i increase the idle timing?

thats why i dont think anything is wrong right now, bc it can be fixed by adjusting the timing.

how is neptune compared to crome?

How far advanced is the ignition timing @ idle? And what engine management are you using now?

u do it with tuning.

Crome will get the job done with naturally aspirated motors. Neptune is very precise and everything works like its supposed to. I would never run crome on a boosted motor, just my opinion tho.

in retrospect, they dont compare.

k so i guess everything will get resolved tomorrow (hopefully). right now im on a chipped p28 basemap for usdm h22 with i/e/dc header/p/fuel pump. i now added a supertech valvetrain, cam gears, skunk2 pro1 cams, and replaced the dc header with a camp1320 4-1 header. u can imagine how badly i needed a tune.

the reason why i didnt tune it earlier is $$. i didnt wanna get it tuned a bunch of different times. id rather do it all at once and get it tuned once.
