I have a 1990 accord lx automatic 127k. Whenever I shift into reverse I hear a metallic rattle coming from the passenger side of the engine compartment. It sounds kinda like putting a screw into a coke can and shaking it.

The transmission shifts rough even after I changed the fluid. Is the transmission on the way out?

EDIT: Just want to add a couple of details. The rattle continues while the car is in reverse. It seems to go away or get quieter after the car is driven a couple of miles.

 

like a cluncking sound? was there a metallic shine/flakes in the fluid you changed?

 

No its not a clunk. Like I said its like if you put a screw into a coke can and shake it. The fluid was fine.
