How to make tweeter pods question.
Hoping to get some installer input.
I know how to work with fiber glass. I am no expert at it but i have made fiberglass subwoofer boxes before.
I want to create some tweeter pods for my boat. I dont want to cut into the boat and since I store the boat outside everthing has to be removable.
My idea was to put some kind of tweeter pod between the windshield glass and the dash. Trying to get some ideas at how I can get that shape. Maybe a large chunk of playdough then wrap it aluminum foil? Open to some suggestions.

I have this boat http://www.reinell.com/Reinell-203LS.html
Mine is the same except I have a wakeboard tower.

Cover area around where you want the tweeter pods with aluminum foil, making sure it fallows couture, use cardboard to "box" area in, add expanding foam, remove, carve/sand "front" into desired shape, some fiberglass resin and bondo and paint, you got custom fit tweeter pods
You will have a light weight pod that fits perfectly into the corners where you want them, if you don't let the resin build up on the "back/bottom/sides" parts that make contact with the boat dash/windshield, you could glue a thin layer of felt to those surfaces, for a decoupler/rattle control and anti-scratch and I bet a single strip of Velcro would hold them in place.

hmmm......spray foam I think I have some of that laying around. Good idea I'll have to think about that. That stuff is messy as hell and sticks to everything. I'll have to see how well I can seal that area off.
How do you remove the foam? That stuffs pretty strong. I intend to cut a hole for the tweeter but I imagine I would be picking foam out for days. Maybe some acetone to dissolve the foam.

It releases pretty easy from the aluminum foil. But i just used this concept to start my glass project and i believe it says on the can not to use any type of solvent..Maybe that is just because it disolves it. I would just read the can

I mean expanding foam or polyurethane foam, like this... http://www.fiberglasssupply.co....html
A hole-saw cuts it like butter, you don't even need a drill.

I was thinking of a completely sealed pod. If that was the case I imagine I would have to pull the foam out of the hole cut for the tweeter.

I'll have to try the spay foam out if that doesn't work I'll try the foam you suggested.

Yea let me know, I have never used the spray foam, except when I added the addition to my house, that's why I was worried about uniform consistency of it, it tends to "layer" because it dries so fast.
Whatever you use, allow for pressure relief, expanding foam, of any kind, exerts a lot of force.

For future reffrence, as long as you leave plenty of places where air can touch the spray foam, it works great to get the shape for a sub box (or tweeter pod) i just did one on my WRX
