Default LMA retaining clips

Have any of you had problems with LMA retaining clips disappearing (coming off of the LMA whilein use)? I am finding that when disassembling a head, oftentimes some of the LMA retaining clips are missing. This is a rather unsettling thought - if the clips are popping off and finding their way into the rest of the engine while in use. I am considering removing all the clips and running the LMA's without them. It appears that they are only there to keep the LMA together when they are not in the head.... Has anyone else had this issue? Any recommendations? I suppsoe its either that, or get new LMAs and hope that new ones will retain their retaining clips...

I'm not sure what clips or clip you are talking about but here's a picture of a gsr LMA with its cap off. FYI: the cap came off in while the head was in use. Luckily I found it and replaced it. I believe this maybe one of the causes for the infamous head click. I hope this helps.

well, it looks like there is a little c-clip that holds the top part of the LMS inside the base... that c-clip is whats missing. So, in this case (for example), one of the LMAs comes apart like that, but the others still have the little c-clip, so they stay together as one unit.

To my knowledge I have never seen a c-clip that holds the LMA together. I even bought a brand new OEM lma from Honda and it didn’t have a c-clip. Mind posting a picture?

Yes, I have heard of the circlips coming out on the LMAs. It's on reason that some people upgrade to the 1998+ Prelude LMAs. It's one big spring. Harder for it to fail.

Actually, I've been considering that option to remedy this problem. I read that the prelude lma's provide less pressure (25lbs less I believe)... does anyone have experience running these (and a .040 shim)... sufficient for 12.6mm of lift?
