no, you dont. drag radials get heat soaked if you do a big burnout in them and wont grip properly. a short, dry burnout is best.

According to the manufacturers that I have spoken with(BFG and Nitto) they would prefer that you did a burnout using the box to achieve the proper tire temps.

Austin thats rediculous... why is it that when scc tested these tires, that they got best results(60ft times) when doing a light, DRY burnout? i dont care though, heat soak your tires. use them up in half the time, and get new ones... thats all they really want you to do.
In my experience the drag radials that still have tread worked best with a dry hop, when little to no tread remained using the box worked best...normally dropping.1-.15 seconds off my 60 ft time.

I ran a set of Mikey Thompson 3019 Drag slicks and the recomended a dry burn out. I know this is a drag radial that is being discussed here, But the fastest times on drag radials my (teammates) friends have seen have been with a little heat in them such as a dry burn out. The only complication to this is that their 60 ft times average about .1 sec faster with a full water burnout (obviously they are hooking up better), but their et's and trap speed for some reason have been .2 to .3 sec slower. Go figure.
is this the same motor we spoke about? What model is ur civic? How much does it weigh? What tranny u using?

Drag Radials...FOR THE MOST OUT OF THEM!
Shave to 4/32nds for long time use
or 2/32nds for track use in ONE season
people think you can chew up soft tires in a matter of a day, but the Japanese Rubber compound in the Nitto (Toyo Rubber Inc.) is more uniform therefore would NOT require heat cyling like with thre Brazilain Rubber'd BFG)
The Water box is there to ease the load from transition-it's a lot harder on the drivetrain to do a burnout on the dry pavement, than it is on wet pavement. Pass the water box Then Spin out on to the dry good used rubbery pavement. Try to get them as hot as 200 *F. Word is bond
A lot of the tire slipping out there is from inexperienced Mustang owners. I get these calls about twice a month.
"yeah is this here Nihdoh Tire?"
"yes sir"
"Lemme talk to one a dem ingineer fellas den!"
"sir most of them are currently busy, is there a problem i can help you out with?"
"well I'm running a 350 stoked to 382 in my pony car got about 400-420 to the wheels (none of this ever dyno'd-FYI), I got these Nihdoh's thinkin' I could get some tracshun outta em, and these things do nothing but spin on me!"
"Well sir have you upgraded you suspension as well?"
"Sus-what now?!"
you know, heavier dampened shocks, Higher Spring Rates...
"Well yeah I just got some new Monroe's a couple months ago"....
PS-Not to bagging on Mustang owners, trust me they're great people.
