Who takes passengers for rides?
For me, it was quite some time until I had a passenger, I'm just not the passenger carrying type of guy.
But anyways, you will notice it takes somewhat longer to stop and slowdown when you have a passenger onboard. I go alot slower when I am carrying a passenger, because I don't carry them enough to be used to the extra weight.
One time I took my Grandma for a ride, took it up to 110 mph with her on the back. she couldnt read the speedo from where she was seated

its my 4th year riding (on the street), and my first time letting a passenger ride is last year.
ive only done it a couple of times for bringing back my gf to her house.
ive noticed how much the rear suspension goes down. yeah, it takes a little more time to slow down, and i have to accelerate slowly since the person in the back could fly off (which almost did happen).

1st time was with 541miles on my bike and that was about as much experience as I had. It was not a great idea, but she was an experienced pillion rider so it worked out ok.
I would be reluctant to take anyone who weighs more than 120lbs dry on my bike, because i am tall and 260lbs.

wet?
its easier when your passenger isn't scared and knows how to be a motorcycle passenger.... mine just happens to weigh only about 105 lbs and also enjoys riding with me....
My better half only weighs 110 pounds and I don't even notice that she is there sometimes.
I don't drive insane with her but I have gunned it up to 115mph before and took some really cool leans on clover leaf highways and stuff. I guess she has strong leg muscles to hold herself up or something.
Anyways she enjoys riding with me...and er...on me (ahem)....cough,cough

I rode a passenger pretty much right after I got a bike. I thought it would be fairly easy. but I was wrong (at the time).
with a passenger, especially girls who just want to go for a ride and don't care about anything else, every time they would move around, I would notice how much their weight shifted the motorcycle. Which wasn't a big deal until corners came into play, slow speed corners when you lean the bike like you normally would, they would try to counter lean (thought they would fall over).
Now I explain to every girl that I give a ride to on "how" to ride passenger on a bike. Pretty much explain to them the concepts of turning and leaning. And let them know (re assure them that they will not fall if the bike leans over). I mean I don't tell them to lean with me or anything like that, I pretty much tell them, "when we are going around a right hand corner, look over my right shoulder. When turning left, look over my left shoulder." This keeps them from causing the "counterweight" effect and keeps their body centered behind mine to make it much easier to handle corners like you are riding alone, both slow speed and higher speed corners.

It took me a about 6 mothsh before i took people with me.. and it's not always easy and i prefer not to do it..
once i was rocking down pch in oxnard and hit 110 when i felt the arms of the woman with me come loose... i chopped the throttle and the loss in momentum brought her back down on the seat.. (the wind almost picked her right off the back of the bike)....
no more passengers for me..

The other day I saw a guy with a girl on the back, both with only helmets and no ther MC gear. He was getting on to 190 and wheelied the bike as he entered the on-ramp. My heart sank. The two although wearing helmets were surely not out of their teenage years I estimated (based purely on the significant amounts of skin her loose clothes were exposing in the wind
. Guys that do this (risking someone elses life for a cheap thrill) need to be spanked.

one time i saw a guy loose a girl that was riding with him while he was doing a wheelie. it looked crazy. he lifted the bike up a coupld of inches and then when he started accelerating, she just flew off hte back. luckily she was wearing a jean jacket and a helmet. she slid for about 2- feet on her back.
i think its people like that who give bikes a bad image!!
