1897 Accord, 81,000 miles great conditon except it
Idles nicely in all gears but Drive. Automatic, LXI, when I come to a stop the engine idles high and rough. How can I get it nice and smooth like when it is in Nuetral or Reverse or lower gears.

does it fluctuate up and down,or does it just idle at a high rpm?
if it fluctuates i would buy some good fuel system cleaner and put it in the next time you fill up your tank.if that dont work you might need a new idle-speed regulator.
my car used to do the up and down **** when i was stopped and i put some cleaner in and it stopped doing it about a month later.
if it just idles high you prolly just need to adjust your idle speed down.

 

i had the same problem but it was a vac-line still put treatment in the tank also
