Default Loud claking noise in h22a motor.

Ok I have a spoon chiped H22a motor and it has been at hi rpms a few times when racing on the track. Now it has a loud clacking noise thats sound like compming from the head possibly. What might this be.Mind you that the engine itself has not been upgraded any internally to my knowledge before I got the motor.Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated.

From 7,800 to 9,800 and yes that is correct. 105mph in second gear.

Dude.....H motors loose there power band after 7.5 to 7.8 rpm's. Im sure you spun a rod bearing and your crank, rods, & block are done.

Is the knock a continuous knock throughout the RPM range? Does it knock at low RPM, go away in mid, and come back in Higher RPMs? If you are sure the noise is from the head, try running some better oil through it... Could just be noisy lifters, but it sounds to me like something else if you were revving it that high.

1) that completely stupid
2) your car was never tuned....stupid
3) your racing with a chip to 9k+...on a stock motor....stupid

do a valve adjustment

good luck with that.

bent valves for sure and maybe some bearing issues.

More than likely the stock head will fail before the bearings do. Maybe he has a little of both?

Thank you for the commits that’s what I kind of figured.
I just wanted to ask a few more opinions before I replaced the cams and such with better parts that can handle it. The car was never driven after the sound of the clacking. It was trailerd home and parked until I got time to replace the parts with a better set up for my all motor civic.Just like the time I snapped both axles on take off now that’s a thing of the past. And for the record how do you know where redline hits until you test it a few times to see where you stand for more improvements to an all motor application. The car was bought with all the goodies inside so you got to find out the limits. Thanks again everyone for the comments and put downs.I figured I would get both lol.

its called dyno tuning. when the power drops off, stop revving. and you surely cant rev 2000 RPM past a redline and think its safe. use your brain.

seeming as u bought the car like that, and Skunk2 def. wouldnt let a H rev to 9800 or we, i bet the thing has a B ECU.Or skunk2 didnt do anything and some smuck just chipped ur ECU and removed the Rev limit.

Whatever the case, GL.Be ready to spend some doe.

but if the motor was internally stock then there is no need to "find out the limits" a stock motor has a stock revlimit for a reason. i would say ditch the old chip and get one better suited for your engine.

im betting on bearing failure. drain your oil and see if its got some bling to it.

ditch the pos chip in general and get the ******* engine tuned correctly. If you arent willing to do that, get a stock ecu.

you kinda forgot to mention in your first post that you were squeezing on it... and a direct port kit too. kinda has a lot to do with the clacking noise if you were on the bottle at 9800 rpms on a stock h22... surprised it didnt chuck the rod out the side of the block......

Well since I have had the car it has not had a bottle hooked up to it and it has never been sprayed since I have had the car. The stuff that I have listed was on the car when I bought it and I just drove it from time to time and a few times at the track with no problems what so ever for over 3 months.Well minus a snapping of axles. The last time I drove the car was at the track with no nitro running threw the car and thats when the problem with this car happend. It has been parked ever since.I am being completly honest with what I have posted.Yes the car has been sprayed Im guessing once or twice before i had it but ran perfect when I bought it and now due to my racing it at the track and only there thats where the problem occured. And where did you get I was squezzing on it when I bought the car this way without a bottle.I dont like nitrous never have.A buddy of mine wanted the kit off my car but faild to pay for it so its still on the car.I may have redlined it a few times but im not that damn stupid.
