Default Y P30 pistons over PCT?

just wanted to know y majority of all motor ls/vtec builders choose P30 pistons over PCT ek9 pistons, doesn't the civic type r pistons have more compression and isn't that what u want in an all motor application?

compression needs to be matched to octane, and the CTR pistons are just plain heavy.

dont p30 piston's yield 11:5, while pct pistons put you around 12:5 or maybe even higher?

yes but as combustion pointed out...

I think most engine builders will agree that the quality of compression is at times far more important than the quantity of compression.

P30's require no modification to fit the LS rods.
P30's have better flame travel across the piston than CTR's.
P30's weigh less.

can you just slap these pistons on a gsr block or does it neeed to be honed?

depends on the condition of your cylinders

JDM p30's in a GSR will have more compression than the P73's but the "style" of piston is the same. Neither have a huge dome so both will work well.

how many miles are on the block ur putting the p30's in??? cause if its high mileage it might not be a bad idea to replace the rod bearings and crank bearings. just to be safe.

Don't forget timing. What's is the point of having alllll that compression from a high dome CTR piston, and then have to pull out more and more timing. Timing is where the power is, and you can run more of it safely with a P30.

i was reading somewhere where these pistons are are a better choice to make higher compression when going for all motor in a b16a2 then the stock b16a2.
