Default tires for high hp cars

ok with a fresh set of wheels im going to need some good tires. before i ran medeocer tires due to low hp. but with the finishing of my build i need to have tires. power is going to be in the 450-500 range. im getting 16" wheels and need to have some tires go grip. i will obviously have everyday wheels and 2 wheels for track days with slicks but for the everyday wheels i need some tires that will let me grip some. as childish as it might sound i dont wana come to a light next to something that wants to run and just smoke tires without going anywhere.. i was looking at bf drag radials but the im not to sure of the sizes they offer that will not cause major rubbing.

so i need some help with tires. all recomindations needed. thanks

I asked nsxtasy the same question a few days ago. He said the best choice would be the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3. They are grippy and last 30K+ miles. After doing some research I have to agree with him. They are $136 a tire. What is your budget?

Yup. The Goodyear F1 GS-D3 for daily driving, where you want a longer-lasting tire. If you don't care how long it lasts, also consider the Falken Azenis RT-615, which is even grippier on dry pavement (although the F1 GS-D3 is damn excellent too), but doesn't last as long (figure 10-12K miles) and isn't great on wet pavement, unlike the Goodyear.

Not to step on anyone's toes or anything, but I daily drive a 400+ hp vehicle and even the 235-60-15 M&H drag radials get lit up pretty badly once boost kicks in. 1st 2nd and 3rd.

My suggestion is to ditch the 16" wheels, grab a set of 15" wheels and throw the 225-50-15 BFG drag radial or MT et street radial if you plan to have traction with the hp you are wanting to obtain. It won't eliminate traction problems but it'll be better than ANY other "regular" street tire you'd want to throw on there.

I think you just need to turn down your boost a tad.

Drag radials are better than street tires for acceleration. But downsides with using them on the street include fast wear (5K miles - making the Azenis look like a long-life tire, LOL), and they're not all that great about turning or on wet pavement. Personally, since you have a couple of wheels with slicks for the dragstrip, I think getting street tires for the other four wheels makes a lot of sense. And I agree with OMN that you shouldn't street race, and you should get appropriate tires for the street. But it's your money, your car, your choice.

Agreed, on both 15" and street drag radials.

Or, if you care about corners, Advan Neova rawks.

Nope. It's not available in 16" (or 15") sizes for our cars. And the Azenis is better than the Neova (not just my own opinion, but also that of Grassroots Motorsports testing).
