Braking System Upgrade - Need to know my options
Well I have about $700/$800 to spend on my brakes and I just wanted to know ALL my options as far as upgrading goes. I plan on buying the 11" kit from Fastbrakes. But I really don't know much about brakes - what else would I need to get the most out of those? Also does anyone on Honda-Tech work at Fastbrakes? Sorry if this seems like a bad question I just want to do it right the first time and brakes aren't my specialty.
BTW I have 15" MR-5's with a +38 offset. NO WAY am I going to substitute them... will this kit still fit?
you could do a gsr swap. i just got done putting some on my crx haven't gotten to try em out yet. but my friend has the same things in his eg hatch and it feels awesome braking and i did it all for $300
Call Brian at Fastbrakes and ask him all your questions he will have the best combo for the buck. I would trust his opinion over anything on HT. That is who I talked to when I did mine.
I did EX spindles, ITR calipers, 11" Prelude rotor, 92 Integra rear disc, and the booster and MC. I can out brake anything at the track.

type-r brakes without doing a 5-lug, is it possible? yep, itr caliper on dx knuckles w/ 10.3" rotors. dollar for dollar, the integra type-r caliper is a mean set-up. many honda/acura parts interchange...the itr calipers can be found at junkyards & are stamped 17CL15VN (found on accord wagon, legend, vigor, rl, tl, cl, itr, prelude, cr-v, odyssey).
upon acquiring the itr 17CL15VN calipers, the brakes will need to be taken apart. the brackets (which are stamped 23T, 25T or 28T) must be sent out to a machine shop & 1/8" grinded off (where the bracket mates to the knuckle). the grinded bracket will work with itr, nsx & legend 2-piston calipers.
this set-up uses 10.3" rotors, which can be found on 90-91 civic ex, 90-00 integra & 99-00 si. the pro's of using this rotor is the easy access of replacement parts. no need for custom rotors, easy off-the-shelf blanks. you'll also need to grind (or file) the pads to clear the throat of the rotor. the nsx & the integra type-r share the same pad, many aftermarket options for the track. even if you're ***-broke in your beater, there's a huge selection of pads for the 17CL15VN's
keep in mind, bigger calipers need more fluid to push the bigger piston, so i recommend a 15/16" brake master cylinder from a 90-91 civic 4dr ex.
if you plan on swapping out your knuckles later, the machined brackets & calipers will also work on ex & teg knuckles also, but it will require an 11" prelude rotor redrilled to 4X100.

pm BrakeExpert, he machined my brackets * re-drills rotors & does great work
