Default New to wleding, welder for making downpipe/exhaust?

I been wanting on learning how to weld and i would like to start by buying a cheap welder that i can weld my own downpipe and exhuast etc etc etc.

I've been looking at a few harbor frieght welder and was wondering if a certain welder is good enough to weld up an exhuast system?

Like this welder, http://www.harborfreight.com/c...55525

"...spend a bit more and get something with gas."

Someone gave me this advice and I didn't listen... now I'm giving the same advice to you!

That welder is fine.

Just get an argon regulator, bottle of C25 gas, and some 0.024" wire and you'll be ready to go. That HF welder has a gas valve in the gun and a port on the back of the welder.

Get a 20% home cheapo/lowes coupon off ebay, get the lincoln weldpak 3200 (their best 120v mig), and be done with it. $80ish for your own small bottle, $25ish per refill. Its a LOT easier to learn welding with a non-**** MIG welder. It also has to do with the user, the best welder in the world will still weld like **** if you don't know how to adjust the settings, but I'll assume you can find lots of info in this subforum on that stuff

10 years? I'm sorry, but that is pathetic.

Hahaha....

After 10 years, I would imagine you can weld with a quarter, jumper cables and a battery... just like McGyver... and make it look good...

hes implying that the welder sucks, not his skills.

the welder is only as good as the machine.

No he didn't. He said he couldn't get a good weld with one. I can, many people can, so can my girlfriend who has never welded in her life. My 90 year old grandma can make a good weld too.

Also, that statement is 100% BS. The machine doesn't make the welder, the welder's skill does.

Your family is the greatest of welders

Have you used the machine ? A friend has one and its absolutely horrible, actually now that I think about it, the gun broke in pieces. The plastic piece inside for the wheel broke and had to be returned the first week.

Do it right and spend a little more money and get a decent name brand welder. The welder won't last that long, and will give you headaches, Invest wisely, a welder should be an investment, rather then a impulse sort of buy.
