Default engine performance upgrades

Would a coldair intake make a noticible difference in my car which is in my signiture? What brand of CAI would you guys reccomend? I am looking to get performance, as well as a nice sound coming from it.

Also, what type of headers would you guys reccomend for my car?

Get CAI!!!! Since you live in Southern Cali. AEM is a good brand. Good price for what you get. Pretty good quality. Injen is another good brand. But I would go with AEM.

Most people call Short ram something like this... CAI SR. Which is wrong. I used to do it. But they're different. CAI and SRI.

A CAI (cold air intake) is different than a SRI (short ram intake). The CAI is longer and usually the filter ends up down behind your fender. The pros of this is that is does take in colder air than a SRI, the cons are that its more expensive and that if you drive through a big puddle, it can cause your car to hydraulock. The SRI is smaller and cheaper and it fits in your engine bay. You wont notice much more power with just an intake, but if you upgrade your whole exhaust (header, exhaust) you will gain a little bit of power. As far as brand names for the intake I would recommend just a generic one off Ebay, just because it wont make much power, it will be louder though. As far as a header I would recommend Megan Racing

I have an SRI and header setup that I installed a few weeks apart. When I installed the SRI there was definately noticable gains and very snappy throttle response, I got a generic one from ebay and I really recommend this mod its a lot of fun and is easy to install.
After installing the header I lost a bit of low end but gained top end, overall the car is faster with the addition of the header. I also bought the header from ebay but I got a name brand, obx, for 120 bucks and I'm very happy with it. I have the same gen accord as you and the sound is really good with the setup, nice and deep.
You're gonna get a lot of people in support of CAI and a lot of people supporting SRI, the difference in power for our cars is honestly not really noticable at all but the choice is yours, I just ended up going with the worry free route and got an SRI.

Sorry, but I couldn't ever call OBX a "Name Brand". I can't speak for any of OBX's other products, but their exhaust product are horrible. People like to bash Megan Racing on here, but Megan Racing is far superior to any OBX exhaust product I have seen. OBX's crappy quality could also be why you lost some low end torque. I'm sure I'm going to get some flak, but this is my .02

yeah i have to second the obx comment. they are a brand. but far from being a quailty brand. you get what you pay for with them. what you get is crap. so don't expect great results.

Well I can't speak for all obx products but from what I've collected it seems that theres lots of mixed experiences with them. In my case I was very happy with their product and the quality was excellent, my more mechanically inclined friend who helped me install them is a welder and even he approved of the welds.

As for losing low end that will happen with almost all aftermarket headers because of their design, mainly because they are wider than stock. The wider runners of the header will make for lower exhaust velocity and create a bit of backpressure in the low end but at the high end it will have less backpressure due to it being less restrictive with the wide long runners...

Thanks everyone for your responses. Because of the major price difference and minor differences in power, I think I'll end up with a AEM SRI.

Will an SRI add a little more noise like a CAI? Thats another thing i'm looking for. And does anyone know about the K&N filters and intakes?

Are they any good?

Yes, SRI's are louder than CAI's I believe.

K&N is the industry standard as far as their filter goes. their intake kits im sure are equally as good.

K&N is one of the best if not the best you can use. I run a generic tube and put a K&N filter on it. a lot of people actually do this. even ebay tubes are okay. just get a good filter. as far a noise. i never had a CAI. i don't like the cons. i do know that if the intake is the only mod you have, you will hear it for sure as you punch it. its not bad though. it sounds pretty nice. i can't really hear mine now though, since i upgraded the whole exhaust from stock.

if you are going for cost effectiveness, id say get an ebay pipe with a k&n filter. (somewhat) major price difference and minimal power difference
