DA Integra Build thread for LeMons Race.
I know I am in the wrong thread as I usually lurk around the EF and motorcycle forums on H-T.
So heres the story, We (Myself, Colin, and two others that I don't believe are on H-T) are building a 1992 Integra GS into an endurance race car for the race 24 Hours of LeMons. We are parting everything out to make back some money to reinvest into the car. The cars total value can not exceed $500.00, However this does not include saftey items such as Wheels and tires, Roll cage, Harnesses, Window nets, or Fire equiptment.
Well after searching high and low for a suitable car (I.E. Civic, Integra, Possibly Accord, Sho Taurus, Miata...ect.) We finally come across a 1992 Integra GS for sale in the Hollywood hills. It has a salvage title, front end damage, a dent on the drivers door and a chunk of bad body work on the rear hatch. All of which doesn't bother us any as we are going to get pretty beat up running around with big beastly cars on the track that all don't care about how it looks or if you are in their way.
We end up buying the car for a whopping $385 and drive it back to Temecula (about a 100 miles south east of Hollywood). Three days later we take the car on its true madden voyage, from Temecula, Ca to Tracy, Ca (a 460 mile trip one way) up to the July 24 hours race. The car makes the haul with out any problems. So we now know we have a reliable car that has both just enough speed to keep us out of trouble and good enough brakes and suspension to make it for about 15 hors of racing on a small track with big cars.
On to the build-
Here is a few pics of the car when we first brought her home.

and here is a pic of what we are hoping to get it looking like.

Quick update-

Almost all of the interior was sold last night. We made $100 off the deal and the buyer recieved all the interior except the head liner, door cards, and top portion of the dash that will most likely stay in the car for its vents and defroster.
So our cars value is now down to $285 and rumor has it that we sold the logo from the center of the steering wheel for $10 so we are really at $275. That gives us $225 to reinvest into the car in both performance and making it look good.

Well a quick update. We sold a few more parts off the car, Our Value is now down to $212 so that leaves us with $288 to spend on making it handle a bit better and making it a hair faster.
The car is now fully gutted except for the dash. Some sound deadaning is off as well.

I took the hood to work a few days back and skinned the hood down. Almost eberything is off of it and its about as floppy as a noodle now, but it is light and thats what really matters.

Some of the other team mates worked on making some hood pins from long bolts while the others of us worked on making the stock wing more functional. The wing may not be pretty but it should work well. It's raised 8 inches (the height of a tall can of steely dan) and angled about 12-15 degrees. it's raised with all thread double nutted against both the wing and the hatch. The passenger side dash plate was cut to make angled shims to hold the hood angled. the ecu cover plate was also cut to re-enforce the all thread under the hatch.

We also now have a fire extinguisher and hood pin cables to mount in the car today.

Yeah Car and Driver had a car (2nd gen rx7) in the race last weekend. I believe they placed in third behind a Dodge Neon in first and a EF hatch in second

It would be great if we could throw out steely dan's but I don't think that will go over too well. However we will be putting on a racing strip made from cut open cans and we will also be wraping the last bit of visiable exhaust with cans as well. That is just a super basic photoshop of the main points of the paint job, we will also be including almost everything else from the can into it as well... i.e. government warning about drinking, high gravity lager, the part about the 211 being the ancient symbol for steel ect. Were hoping to be a crowd favorite, and we figure its a cheap form of racing and malt liquior is pretty much as cheap as you can go booze wise. It fits... plus its delicious.

Nice looking car, are you going to take off the tar sheets?
I agree Steel Reserve is the best of the malt liquors, but saying it tastes good is a bit of a stretch...
