I need some advise. to ride or not.
Ok so here is the story. On the 3rd of July I got off of work and hoped on the frontage road of I.H. 35 to get on the Interstate. I was stoped at a light and a few seconds later I hear tires lock up, I look behind and bam. A drunk driver hit me from behind at 50mph. This guy had no insurance, was drunk {0.169 blown}, high, an had a warrant for somthing else. This was is second dwi with a collision. The point is If it would not have been raining in texas that day I would have been on the bike an he would have killed me. Before that I was on a group ride with my dad an roommate an his dad. We were just going along and my dad hits an oil slick and down he goes at 60, thank god he just slid an got back up. Then today a driver hit my dad on his bike while trying to make a left turn on a green light b/c the other driver wanted to go straight. This guy had no insurance, revoked DL. {he can't see}, an deaf. My dad wants me to either sell the bike or only ride it for group rides b/c he an my family are scard that somthing is going to happen. What would yall do? I live on my own so they can't take it from me but I don't like them worried all the time.
it's up to you, not us.
I can't say from personal experience because i haven't had any horrible motorcycle experiences yet, but at this moment in my life motorcycling is everything to me and i can't imagine giving it up. If this is true for you too then you won't want to give it up either, even after a few scares. But, if these events have made you debate what's important to you in life than perhaps it is time to hang up your helmet.

just curious but what exactly do you consider horrible? Watching a friend scream in pain? being knocked out not knowing what the expletive you did wrong to cause it in the first place? broken limb?

Its just a personal choice, you could get killed crossing the street on foot. For the time I've been riding I've seen almost everyone except a dead body on the road. I've known people that died from their injuries though yet I still ride. I just love being on two wheels too much to give it up. I'll be rocking a goldwing when I'm 60. It's all about minimizing your risks when you ride and knowing how to avoiding potential danger. If its in your head that you're going to get hurt you probably will and maybe its time to go back to the cage.

accidents happen when you least expect them, so always expect it. always look out for people not paying attention. always look out for that driver on the cell phone or the one who might have had a drink or two. always look out for people trying to beat that red. i personally wouldnt stop. i dont comute because i want my bike to only be for fun and not get associated with the horrible riding conditions of traffic and long flat straight roads. or you could try a track only bike. all the fun of riding and pushing your limits with non of the risks of cagers
My theory is that if you ride in the rain you are very much looking to fall. I would say dont let that make you want to stop riding. I seen crashes online and how they end up, still does not make me want to stop. If it is my time then its me time.
Thanks guys for all of your input. I know an think that if it's going to happen, it's going to happen. I don't think I will give up riding but, change some of the bad habits that i have. Thanks again.

Your right but, You do have to have it when you get it inspected. Hell, I can go take out a policy for two days. Thats just long enough for me to get it inspected and registered and drop the policy untill next year. I just plan hate people that don't pull their own weight an expect us to do it for them. I think if your cought driving without insurance you should be booked, dl should be taken for 6 months with a surcharge for 3 years, and have to show proof of insurance every month for the next year.

horrible is defined by the individual, but mainly, i haven't crashed yet. I've had my share of close calls, but those weren't bad enough to deter me from riding.
