Default 4th gen digital dash died help

ok so i wasn't driving the car but here is the description of what happened. Dash started smoking. The fuel and temp gauges don't light up at all any more clock and trip still work. What is wrong is it a fuse? or the dash its self? Where would this said fuse be, i looked under the hood and under the dash nothing was listed as instrument cluster or dash? How much would this part be to replace if it is the actual dash that burned out?

thanks

I'm no genius but from what you said it sounds like some wires may have gotten crossed some how and burnt out. i have read many threads that speak of dash light issues but none say anything about smoke coming from the dash.. try the search option and see what you get. It may take you a while but try the different remedies and checks that are provieded in them..

I had issues with my dash and it ended up being the climate control that caused the problem.. i just followed the tutorial i found on this site and everything is good now. Good luck man

i just read what i typed.. i'm at work still so i'm not really paying attention.

Not everyone is constantly trolling the site, providing instant gratification to questions. Anyway, if there was visible smoke involved, I seriously doubt it was only a fuse. Pull it apart and see if you can see what burned up

In one of my preludes I had this happen, it ended up being the car alarm that was installed terribly before I owned it. Anyways, if the fuel gauges and stuff dont light up at all, I would start checking the connection to the ignition wires under the steering while. I cant remember if its the blk/yel or the wht/blk but thats the place to start.

yeah thanks for the replys....yeah i had some kind of alarm wired up on mine before i bought the car as well. I just don't have the time to tear it apart right now and i wanted to narrow down the possibilities when i do get the time.

gauges are fried
start looking for them on ebay
too bad the gauges dont have a fuse right before them

had my gauges smoke on me too
found out a wire from an alarm install got loose and shorted the wiring for the gauges under the dash
sucks

You barely waited an hour you loser. Have some patience...

Your dash probably burned out or the dash lights controller. Take it out and look at the parts.

Sorry i have somebody else that was driving it in rush hour traffic late for work that was freaking out and wanted an answer fast as possible because that is their last resort for transportation and they though it was gonna burn down or w/e.

Yikes, sounds like someone didn't treat your car very well at some point...
