Update on My Stolen ITR, July 23rd 2007.
I've finally received an offer from Progressive and I am quite disappointed.
I thought that given how well I was treated by another driver's insurance (AllState) when my R6 was totaled, that I would be pleasantly surprised in this case.
The offer was $13,950, plus $837 in sales tax, for a total of $<FONT COLOR="red">14,787</FONT>.
I know of one ITR for sale at a local dealer for $18,000 with more miles than my R had. I was not necessarily expecting $18K but my R had 48,000 miles and was in great shape. I would have liked to receive between $16K and $18K, and I think that's totally fair.
So, for anyone who has successfully fought the insurance company for a higher settlement - what did you have to go through? I expect that Koala Yummies will chime in here with some first-hand experience, but all opinions and advice are welcomed.
Thanks guys.

First off I say go to that dealership and have them copy you the sticker for that car so they can see what kind of miles it has and the price they're asking for it. I would also go through ITR for sale thread around here and print out some of the threads with close to the same mileage.
Ross... again sorry for all that your going through...
Go back to them and tell them you'll take whatever offer they give you, so long as they go get the car for you. In their look of confusion say yes, that's right. If you can replace the car for said 14+change, then let them.
What I'm getting at is they can't. Obviously. Take them as many FS ITR's similar to yours as you can in and be prepared. Go to http://www.autotrader.com and ITRCA and here for all of your comparisons.
It's going to take some time, and fighting back and forth. They always throw out that low number thinking most will just take it and run. However, I'd fight them tooth and nail on it until they gave me what I thought was sufficient.
Also, recently I heard of one user talking to an Auto Appraiser. I know they lucked out due to the fact that their apprasier was a regular track ***** and knew of the ITR. This option will cost you some $$$ upfront but will SO be worth it in the long run.
HTH and again, sorry for the loss...

is your deductible figured into that amount? the key for me in working with state farm was that the FS ads i showed them had to be for similar cars (year, make, model, condition, etc. ,etc.) within close proximity. that last part is subjective. given that the R is somewhat uncommon, it'll be hard for you to find many Rs close to you. did you have receipts of your (recent) parts? the claims rep that i worked with towards the end was nice enough to give me an additional 200 bucks when i showed him pictures of my tires that i had just mounted two weeks before i totalled my car. so he factored that in. =P different reps will have different takes. pm Black R cause he had to deal with insurance as well in the past and has welcomed inquiries. good luck

Like others have said.. Show them the ads for others for sale - especially at dealers.. that one nearby is a PERFECT example to show them.. if you really want to push the issue, provide them with maintenace receipts, etc.. anything to show them that the car was in outstanding condition..
they are just using a nada appraisal to come up with that number (when I ran it, it came up just over $15k for a clean one retail).. the claims person at this point has no idea what that car is or how much they cost in the real world..
do not accept or cash any checks from them until you are satisfied with the amount..

Get a lawyer, I had to when dealing with progressive when my 00 Si got jacked a few years back! They offered me 8k for my car, I went straight to a lawyer and he sent them a letter then three day's later I got offered 14k.. I took it! I dont know if its that easy anymore, But a lawyer knows what ins companies do! GL

Ross, we've had this discussion before. PM me if you want to discuss further. All I'll say is they are looking for a settlement. If you haven't accepted already then the game is on.
The more I do business the more I love to fvck these dickwads as much as I can.

Not to be a snot but I got paid out $18,500 for mine(01' ITR 48k) a year and a half ago with no prob. Actually it was their offer and I thought it was fair. I didn't have progresive but I did have some cheapy insurance company. I remember that they averaged out three other R's in the area. Don't take a check that won't replace your old vehicle. Again, the bottom line is the check you get should cover you (minus the deductible) on another car that replaces yours car pretty much exactly. I know you know this but if this will help you be firmer than good. Stick in there man...no car does suck but you'll be glad it's all over when it is. Good luck hit me up if I can help.

Is this thread Dejavu to any of you? There have been countless threads like this since Ross has joined HT, since 2001.
Regardless, good luck.

Ross, I don't think I can offer any practical advice, but good luck and I hope everything gets resolved soon so you can move on.
Midget - the whole replacement cost argument would fall on deaf ears, at least here. I've gone nine rounds with my mom over that issue (she's a State Farm agent), but it's simply the way the laws are written in NC

That a polite way of telling me to search? Or that you don't care to hear about it? Because you said something similar when I posted it stolen in the first place.

Alot of banks and insurance companies are only using nada . My bank Navy Federal said they use Nada because KBB gives sellers/dealerships the advantage in buying and reselling. They explained it more but I wasn't listening.

the best way to insure your ITR is to get insurance for a declared amount...that way if anything happens you will get that much money...

I dont wanna have to pay the extra amount. Not sure how much extra it is... can anyone chime in and throw some figures at us? Especially if my insurance company tells me what I can expect to happen if my r were wrecked or stolen.

Ross, you are a veteran, so be a veteran. Dont act like you just joined yesterday because you have been here since 2001. Your curiousity is at the same level as a newbie. Search dude!
I got $20,xxx when my R was stolen back in 2004. Plus mine had about 52K miles on it...They offered me $15K, but I kept fighting anf fighting....NEVER agree on the first offer. Also print out ads for Current Type R's for sale and show them to the adjuster. That always helps out.
