hey guys i know this is a honda forum, but i do a lot of reading and im hoping possibly someone who installs all types of cars might see this, lotta info on this board so here goes...

im about to install a radio for a friend on his 2001 volvo s60. i have done quite a few system swaps in older cars, but i know volvo's can be a little tricky electronically and i dont want to mess anything up. the one thing im not used to is we will be putting a 12 inch sub to the stock head unit.

now any other system i have installed was quite easy, get to the back of the radio, plug in rca cables in the back. along with the antenna, then run the blue remote wire to a lead, then the sub wiring to the amp. its always been quite easy yet its always been an after market cd player...

is the back of the volvo's radio easy, do i just plug in rca's? ive also read a lot about some software download.??? like i said its an 01, ive done a lot of searching, so if someone could lead me in the right direction, or have a nice tutorial or how to. that would be great. like i said im familiar with subs, amps and the NORMAL wiring kit (remote, speakers, rca;s) but is anything special needed for the volvo. any links or insight would be appreciated!

 

As has been discussed literally hundreds of times, you'll need a lime out converter.

 

does it have a factory amp?

 

Does it matter if he's just hooking up a sub?

 

yea, sometimes if you grab signal after the amp it will clip the new sub amp. Or if the system has a mid and a tweeter and he grabs the tweeter wire. Or if he get a loc that low on wattage it will burn up. Thats why they sell diffrent types of loc.
