HELP!!!!! brake weakness
i have a 1995 honda accord lx and i think there might be a problem with the brakes. when i brake hard the brakes feel solid but when i brake easily, example: when stopping for a light on a highway with many cars- i go to hit brakes easy and they keep going all the way down to the floor, which i dont believe is a good thing. i think it might be my master cylinder. any other ideas?
I had the same issue with my 95 accord, brakes were fading slowly, checked master cylinder and found rust inside, probably due to contamination with fluid, replaced with a new one MC,bled them accordingly with rear passenger, rear driver, front passenger and finally front driver where the MC is located.
Now the issue is that brakes are bit better in stopping the car but pedal is still spongy, checked for leaks and lines but none also bled them so much that almost used 1litre of brake oil which came out as new oil while bleeding from wheels. Obivously left no point but if still anything is left behind please help, help needed urgent, thanks.

rehmans - check your rear wheel sylinders and be sure that they are not leaking. Additionally, have someone hit the brakes and loot at your rubber brake lines. See if they are swelling. If so, replace the lines.
what is your bleeding process? And does the car have antilock?

thanks, I tried all sorts, no leaks as I said and not really sure whats wrong with it, some one told me earlier it can also be a defective booster, it does not have ABS, I tried bleeding them again but still the same, also I remember changing the rubber brake lines a few months ago so it might not be them, honestly it takes a **** when things don't sort out the way u wish but I think I'll make it easier for myself by spending a few on it by taking it to a good mechanic.

THIS IS NOT TRUE!! I dont know why this keeps getting spread around the forum. A defective booster will not give a soft pedal. I had several arguements with other members about this. If the booster is defective, the pedel will be rock hard like when the car is off, but all the time.

I agree with JDM_DC4_Fanatic. The brake booster simply adds "power assist" to the master cylinder. Some old cars did not have brake boosters, just the master cylinder. From this you can assume that the brake booster is not needed for properly working brakes.
If you adjust the rod from the brake booster to master cylinder, this can cause problems with the brakes because the master cylinder never returns to the "zero" position or the rod never fully pushes in on the master cylinder. This gives the illusion of replacing the brake booster (and getting a rod that is the correct length) and it fixing the problem.

thanks for all people out there for their generous help!!! Found the culprit, I did bench bleeding which was not a hassle and while bleeding the brakes later on I noticed the front passengers brake hose pipe(rubber) linking between the tyre was leaking, said to myself AHHH there is the messy bit I was looking for and finally found it.
Could anyone please help me or any links on tutorial how to remive that hose pipe and replace it, though I am not bad in DIY but still would appreciate any help, I am going early to get a new part and would change it myself rather with a mechanic(I don't find them trustworthy), as I said I had changed them recently s few months ago, then how come it leaked again, probably he didn't even do it at all and wanted to make money from me coming back to him again. I better do it myself but could not find any help on this forum, PLEASE HELP, thanks
