Default getting new kumho tires!

ill be getting new tires next week and i was told to go to this place in san jose

called Tires Only. They only sell Kuhmos. Good reviews from them and heard

about their good prices. My friend recommended me to get Kumho AST 205-50-15

for my gsr. i can get all four for about 250 mounted and balanced, but i read the

FAQ forum and it said that AST sucks. Im looking for some tires that will grip but

wont break my wallet of somewhere around $250-$275. anyone got any other

recommendations?

For that price I wouldn't argue it haha. Have you looked into the Kumho SPTs?

For reviews check out http://www.tirerack.com I have owned two sets of SPTs and even autocrossed with them. Awesome all around tire. No complaints. Best part is they last a while because i hate dealing with tires.

thanks for your help. im looking for all season tires so i guess ill stick with the ast. they seem to be the best bang for the buck too. ill go to the place next week and if the asx are like 20-30 bucks more than ill just get those.

Why do you think you need all-season tires in San Jose? Do you sometimes drive to areas with snow in the winter? If so, then you're right - you need all-season tires. And in that case, I strongly recommend the Kumho ASX, rather than the AST.

However, if you think you need all-season tires for rain, you're mistaken (it's a common mistake). Summer tires like the SPT are excellent (MUCH better than all-seasons) in rain as well as on dry pavement. The only thing all-seasons offer is the flexibility for frigid-weather driving as well as warm-weather driving. So if you will virtually never drive on these tires in snow, get the SPT, rather than the ASX or AST. In moderate to warm temperatures, like you have in San Jose, the SPT is much, much better in performance than the all-season ASX or AST.

The prices aren't all that different for any of these tires, BTW. Here are current prices at the Tire Rack:

205/50-15: SPT $60, ASX $56, AST $49
195/55-15: SPT $62, ASX $65, AST N/A

That's an outstanding deal! Remember, with the Tire Rack, you're going to also pay for shipping, and then for mounting/balancing, so it's likely to run you $320 or thereabouts. Any time you can beat the Tire Rack by that much, it's a terrific deal.

Also, the SPT is perfect for your needs. Go for it - DEFINITELY!

(BTW, I've been in pouring rain on the racetrack with the SPT, and they are absolutely awesome in rain!)

I have the Kumho SPT's on my Protege5 and they have been great. I even drove them in a bad ice/snow storm and they did just as well as any all season tire i've had before.

i spoke to someone over the phone a couple days ago at TIRES ONLY and he told

me he had SPTs and the total price was 265. My brother went there 15 min before

me to get new tires for his car and when i got there i noticed that they put on

ASTs on his car. We then told the owner that we wanted SPTs and but he said he

does not carry that kind. I then told him that i talked to him on the phone a

couple days ago and he said he had SPTs. He claimed that i talked to someone

else and that person gave me wrong info. We both ended up getting ASTs because

they did not carry ASXs for our sizes and they do not carry SPTs at all. paid 255

for all four. i guess ill try these out and see how they handle. Anything i should

know about before i start driving them hard? do i need to break them in and if so..

how?

p.s : i needed new tires quick so thats why i ended up buying them. The bright side is that they look pretty good.

Just bought my two rear Kumho SPT's 205/50/15's on tirerack.com for $136 shipped. Then ill pay another $11.50/tires to get them mounted and balance. So Im paying about $320 for a new set of four tires. Dam you know your stuff nsxtasy
