Default Questions for a first bike

Im 17 years old 6'3" 200lbs. my question to you guys is what would be a good first bike for me. I just completed msf today and ive been looking at a 1998 F3 with 10,000 miles he's asking $3500 insurance will be less thab $50 a month. Would this be a reasonable deal?

the f3 is a popular starter bike. my choices for starters are

1.kawi 250
2.kawi 500
3.suzuki gs500
4.cbr f2/f3

get a ninja 500. cheaper than the f3.

but i think the f3 for 3500 might be a tad too expensive. a couple more hundred can get u an 01 f4i or atleast a f4.

F2's are nice also, and cheaper by a couple hundred. and cheaper on insurance for some reason.

3500 is a bit rich for an f3. high 2000's is more like it, but 10K is low miles.

the F3's a pretty good starter bike, but it'll still expletive you up if you don't respect it.

suzuki's are only for squids. keep that in mind. if you own a suzuki you must be a squid. it may not be because they make nice bikes, it's just that you're a squid. get a f3 instead.

Suzuki gs500f Haven't read much about them or know anyone with one, but I like the look of them over the 250/500's...but you also pay a lot more.

$3500 for a 98 f3 w/ 10k miles, thats a fairly good price. I'd try to get him down closer to $3k and it would be a pretty good deal if its in excellent condition.

The bike has never been laid down or droped. The bike needs a front tire but other than that its in great condition. I think im gonna offer him $3000 and go from there. Also is a textile jacket worth the money I have herd good and bad things about them what is your guy's take on them.

ive read comparison test between textile and leather jackets, cant remember what magazine but it was about a year ago. the general thought is that textile isnt as good because if you go down the friction of the sliding on the pavement would cause the textile to heat up and melt into your skin. this comparison said that some huge majority of street accidents (like 90-05% or something) involve the rider sliding very little. so that argument would only hold if you are at the track where if you go down there isnt anything for you to hit to stop you from sliding. so either textile or leather would be equally as good but textile will breathe a lot better. personally i prefer leather only because its thicker and heavier which gives me more peace of mind. i know its not necessarily better but id rather pay the extra $100 for that piece of mind.

I started on an older Gixxer, it was a 97 600. It was a nice bike to learn on. Many people will tell you to start small but I feel this was a good way to go.

You get use to good brakes, a little bit of power, and how a sport bike handles.

On the jacket- I have a leather, I wear it in 90+ days even when the humidity is high. Leather protects you alot better than textile, and mesh is almost nothing.

Isn't your first bike supposed to be ugly?

Mine (92 ex500, also current bike) is pretty fugly. And I've definitely contributed to that since I've owned it.

That is a little too much for one of those, but if you like i, then buy it.. you won't regret your choice of rolling on two wheels =D
