Default weird oil issue...broken pump? PLEASE HELP I"M BUMMED! happened twice

well, in my f22a1 in my hatchback (bisimoto adaptor kit to D trans, makine about 400 whp), i have had 2 oiling issues. oil pressure drops rapidly (but not to zero) and kills the bottom end.

first engine ran well for 120 miles, then boom, all 5 main bearings went rapidly. oil pressure wouldnt go higher than 20 psi on the way home (and then it started knocking), engine toast, taking turbo with it..

fixed everything , new bottom end, cleaned everything, checked everything, drove it 500-600 miles, runs great. ran 11's on a stock bottom end, ran a GREAT session at gingerman (roadcourse). good oil temps (cooled), great pressure, then, mid session, it starts dropping fast....luckily i caught it. did NOT happen at WOT, or boost, etc.

got it in the pits, etc, coasting back. started it up for a minute an hour later, and it built 68 psi, and dropped rapidly, and i shut it off.

any ideas? cracked gear? its has a Bisimoto undampened (and tiny) crank pulley too... why would it have any pressure if the gear broke though.? or is that normal...to have some, then have it drop quickly

I would never recommend a a solid pulley. This will kill bearings and might be your issue. Cars come with a damper for a reason. It takes away vibrations such as pushing the clutch in and out. I would also check for stuff like a bent oil pan and pickup, but change that damper and it might need a fresh set of bearings. The damage could already be there too with the crank getting beat out of round and such.

yeah...i think i might do a factory pulley from here on out..but bisi said he hasnt had a problem with the many many sets he has out already

any ideas about the low pressure? could a bad oil pump gear give low pressure, or would it just be all or nothing?

NEVER run without a DAMPER!! If you are replacing the oil pump gears go with the billet ones vs. factory pressed metal.

Forgot to mention that you should check the crank snout for run-out with an indicator and the crank to oil pump alignment since you have spun the mains.
If you need we can align bore the mains by locating on the dowels and have .010" over O.D. bearings to correct it if needed.

i dont think i've spun the mains (that was on the old block)...i replaced it with a low mileage block, and inspected EVERYTHING in the block , and it was 100% perfect.

its all stock in the bottom end, except the kaizenspeed balance shaft removal kit.

its the dropping oil pressure situation that gets me questioning. i'll be pulling it apart shortly to examine the oil pump..

oh, and did you mean to never run without a damper, or a with a damper? haha

anybody think a factory pulley will solve these issues? i want to do an ATI harmonic damper this winter (one month wait for a custom size, and 550$)..but in the mean time, if the bottom end is 100% still, i'm replacing the oil pump and putting a shaved-down and balanced/modded b18 one (hole opened up and PS/AC rungs shaved off).. so, it'll be balanced, fit my odd space constraints, and still have the factory rubber insert.
