So, you think you know Air Filters...
We have been conducting some test on several cars using back to back dyno runs using alot of different filters, on both a 346 Supercharged car and a Turbo Honda.
What we have found has been pretty surprising so far...some results are not what you would think!

Green Line - 2 Window Screens on a 45 to one another. This gave us the lowest boost and the least power.
Middle Red - Stock ATI Little filter for an 04 GTO (Very limited room)
Purple Line - One Window Screen. Little bit more boost then the stock filter, with minimal gains for the safety given up.
Top Red Line - No filter at all...The most boost and most power.

This is a picture of the stock air filter and the two screens. We have a MUCH larger air filter we will be installing some time next week and we will report the results.
I should note, the car is an 04 GTO with a mild cam, P1SC, LTs, Full Exhaust and other supporting mods. </TD></TR></TABLE>

glad to see tests like this. but i think tests like this are also subject to variances and the results may not be the same for everyone. people have reported running no screen or just a screen has resulted in lost hp. something to do with surface area of the filter and/or where the filter/turbo is located in regards to air flow.
Yeah, this is something we would also like to test...hopefully we can round up a couple of name brand air filters and re-test again.

We have tested K&N filters (similar to the one shown below) on 300whp - 530whp setups. All of them showed 4whp - 6whp loss when taken off

wanna see more results on this. seems the no filter works for the LS1 but anymore testing been done on turbo hondas besides Alpha's and Carters tests?
not gonna subject my turbo to a screen only but the filter seems really restrictive based on CarterRace's testing

I've always wondered this too. I'm curious if the velocity stack really does anything to enhance the filters efficency.

I've always said a decent sized filter will not loose more than a few hp over no filter at all, and that screens suck on anything less than 4" diameter.
i'd really like to see the apexi and r/s akimoto filters in there as they both have velocity stacks integrated vs. the generic k&n style and no filter. also screen door style mounted on a velocity stack maybe? anyways, cool results!

I made 3hp less at over 600whp with a properly sized K&N filter on my car than I did with it removed. Close enough for me to keep it on there always.
