New (to me) 97 Civic Owner!! Question re: AC/Heater Blower Squeaking
A week ago I bought a 1997 Civic LX with 137K miles. I had the wheels balanced and inspected by a honda dealership. So far the car is in great shape (for a car of its age and mileage).... for me it was love at first drive. I am excited to join the world of Honda!
The only thing I notice is that there is a squeaking and chirping that starts when the AC fan is turned on.. it is intermittent and when it starts I can sometimes get it to stop by putting the fan on full and then turning it back down.
I am assuming that there is a loose fan or blower wheel in the Blower unit or the motor (based on some research on the internet).
My question is (and I did do a search): Is it difficult to replace this blower wheel? Can I lubricate it with out any major work?
I figured that the blower is behind the glove box, if I need to replace the wheel or blower motor, where can I find the directions to do so?
Am I even going in the right direction?
Thank you in advance!

go to a bookstore or somewhere online and get a Chilton manual. I have one myself, and gives all of that info (installation/removal) I highly recommend one.
it is VERY easy to replace it. Just look under the glove compartment area, you need to take out I believe anywhere from 2-4 screws, disconnect some wires and you're set. Just get a new one, this way you won't have to deal with any other problems with it.

Yeah, just look under and you will see how easy it is, also look at the diagram above.

If the car was sitting for a long period of time, it's possible for the squeak to go away on it's own with use. The grease in the bearing basically congeals but with extended use breaks up and starts lubricating the bearing again. Sometimes not quickly enough to avoid damaging the bearing, in which case you end up having to replace it anyway.
If you're planning on keeping the car for a long time, and want to do all the maintenance on your own, you may want to opt for the official Honda Service Manual for your car. The Chiltons is nice in some respects, but it doesn't have anywhere near the coverage of the Helm manual. Chiltons is cheaper, but the longer you keep the car, the more things you'll encounter that it doesn't cover.
