Default LS-V redline at 7 or 8?

i'm driving a a gsr, and i'm thinking about doing a ls-vtec, but to my understanding of an Ls block or should i say crank and rods are only able to handle up to the stock redline, 7. So if i put the gsr head on the ls block does that mean that i can automatically shift at8 rpm, or do i have to do some piston, rod upgrade. I know that it might be a dumb ? but i just wanna make sure that what i'm doing is right.....Oh also i'm wondering if REV hard flat high compression valves are good meaning are the a decent brand......any advice would much be appreciated.

stick with your gsr and do some cam upgrades.. LS/V from what i hear isnt very reliable.. it may be quick but your gizzer will def outlast a LSVtec if you wanna know more theres a sticky on the all motor thread about building LS/Vtec.

i've got around 45,000 kms on my lsv. never had a single problem so far, the car makes peak power at 8800 rpms. I just added some arp hardware (rod bolts and head studs) and have never had a problem w/ my high compression set-up.

its all abut what parts you put in your motor you can make it rev up to 10k for all i care depends on what you put in it and money ive seen a b20vtec rev to 10,000 rpm's and still making power till 10k rpm's if you have money get all the goodies

A lot more torque out of LS/V though.

You could also just keep your GSR block and use an LS crank.

Its not necessarily an unreliable setup. Some people do have problems, but problems arent the rule. I think what most people are referring to here is that an LS/VTEC motor did not come from the factory so getting it to run as though it did can take some work... and money. The potential is there, but it has to be built correctly w/out an halfassing - otherwise it will bite you in the ***. To answer your original question, your redline is based off of the bottom ends limits and the head's. Whichever is lowest will be your redline. The LS bottom end (specifically the rod bolts) cant handle more than 7ish. A GSR head and bottom end can handle a good bit over 8K. IMO, you already have a 1.8 block. So ****** what if you have 37 less CC's. The money you would spend getting your LSVTEC to run right could be put toward building a kick *** GSR motor. Stick with the GSR its a damn good motor.

man just let people believe what they hear until they do a LSVtec swap or get one and see for them self if its reliable or not and what power is... if u do it wrong and just lets do it quick it might expletive up or if u race it 24-7

i got a block in my garage right now with b16 pr3 pistons had a GSR head with Blox IM DC Sport headers with LS tranny raced my brother with my Build GSR Hatch and i barely pulled on him and i rape v8's and he has a Integra vs ek hatch
