When I bought my bike 2 years ago, I bought a service plan with it, so just scheduled maintenance for me. But i've done my own race baffles and gutted my cat so that was pretty handy.

But just wanted to hear about what anyone else has done, or has had experience doing when performing services to their bikes; whether the bike is newer/older from simple oil changes, doing brakes, or even tutorials on how to install aftermarket parts.

I just got my first bike in March, its a 2001 250 So far I have done the following;
Valve adjustment
Oil/filter change
Carb cleaning and adjustment
Chain Lube/Adjustment
That's it so far. I love working on a bike vs. a car just because its so much more compact (obviously) and its easier to tell what is wrong with it

backlash, what kind of bike? miles? Did you buy new?

 

do you guys use speedbleeders when you bleed the brakes? I want to bleed mine but I am afraid some air may be left

2002 SV650s and 2003 RC51. Both used. Mileage was under 4k on both if I remember correctly.

ive completly rebuilt my bike i rebuilt the engine and carbs because all honda dealers wont work on any bike over 10 years old so i do it all my self and save a lot of money

 

the whole idea of speedbleeders is you get no air in the system

What kind of bike did you have to rebuild? Was it an older Honda? Assuming of course.

I picked one up from Autozone. Works for me.

taken forks out
shimmed the rear
rear sets and gp sifting

velocity stacks
clean and adjust chain
replaced fairing stay
cut my exhaust to make it shorty
gonna repair my race glass and make a 1/5 turn throttle next

Heeeeyyooooo! I recomend riding and servicing when needed.

 

carbon removal
brake bleeding
new brake pads
replacing control cables
removal of motor
installing new bearings in block
installing new oil seals
installing new crankshaft
installing new head
installing new piston/rod
hand porting barrel
installing new reed block
installing new intake manifold
calculating squish band - installing spacers to get correct
rebuilding carb
installing new carb
jetting carb
plumbing new hydraulic systems
adding quick throttle
tire rotation
tire changes
new tubes
etc...

About everything except for paint.

 

OP - Did you get a service manual? That'll help out with maintenance.
