Which tires should I get?
taken from FAQ:
Which tires should I get?
This depends on what you're looking to get out of the tire. Make a new topic and tell us what you intend to use it for. In that topic, make sure to answer the following questions:
- What kind of car you have (year, model, version)
- What size wheels you have
- How the tires will be used (daily driving, autocross/track/dragstrip)
- What kind of weather the tires will be used in (dry, rain, snow)
1.) 91 CRX SI
2.) Stock 14" Wheels
3.) Mostly DD, but will be tracked often (autoX and strip)
4.) Will be used in dry weather
I am thinking about the Falken Azenis RT-615's because I heard they grip really well on launches.
Handling is also going to be a major factor on which tires to choose. I don't want to lose traction in the twisties.
With that being said, the FAQ says for 15" wheel size I should get a 195/50-15.
Can 205/50/15 fit, or will performance and handling decrease since its not the right tire size for a 15 inch wheel?
If 205/50/15 do fit on a 15" wheel, should it be a 6.5" or 7" width?
OR, if I'm looking for 205's, should I just get a 16" wheel? (with what size width?)
Which for my CRX would be a 205/40/16.

I agree that the Falken Azenis RT-615 is the way to go for your needs.
In 14" and 15" sizes, they make 195/60-14 and 205/50-15. Both are a bit larger in diameter than your stock tires, but they shouldn't rub, so I would just get those and live with the larger diameter (2.1 and 1.5 percent larger than stock, respectively). The 16" size (205/40-16) is 1.3 percent smaller than your stock size of 185/60-14.
If you get the 205/50-15, and you want the best wheel width specifically for the Azenis, go with 15x7. This particular tire tends to be larger than other tires labeled with this size. If you think you might be using other tires on those wheels as well, then I would go with 15x6.5.
Why not just buy a set in 195/60-14? Then you won't have to buy wheels too...

I was under the assumption that the wider the wheel, the better grip you have. Hence 205's would handle better than 195's. True, or is this false information?
BTW, I'm probably going to go with the Azenis.

I think you mean tires, not wheels.
Theoretically, wider tires provide better cornering than narrower tires. As a practical matter, though, the differences are really very small. Whether that is worth getting wider tires really depends on how you're using them. For example, when you say you autocross, how competitive are you? Have you been autocrossing for years, and do you go to Nationals? Are you willing to pay hundreds of dollars for a wheel upgrade that might give you a few hundredths of a second benefit per lap, so that you come in first in your class? Or is this really just an enjoyable hobby, and it's not such a big deal to you because you're just starting out and you'll be happy if you finish fairly high in the standings?
My suggestion is, get a set of Azenis for the 14" wheels you have now, and try them out. They'll wear out soon enough, and you can always upgrade to larger wheels later if you want. Take it one step at a time...
