2000 - Shift Cable Pin Removal Question
Hi, thanks for taking the time to read my question, and possibly offer some advice.
I'm replacing the shift cable (very hard to move the shifter and all gears lead to reverse) at the moment.
I've disconnected everything on the cable except for 1 pin at the transmission, where the cable meets the lever that operates the transmission.
Where the cable connects to the lever, it is mounted on a bushing which has a pin through it (from what I can guess). The pin has a small flange (driver side) which is held in place by a cotter pin. Removing the cotter pin that holds down the flange and bending the flange allows it to freely spin around the pin that goes through the bushing.
I've removed the cotter pin to access the flange/pin, and before I go all Godzilla on that pin I wanted to be sure that the pin that goes into the bushing draws out driverside.
So far, I've pushed, pulled, twisted - everything I can to get the pin out and I've had no luck but to probably weaken the soft steel of the flange the cotter pin was holding down.
Any advice on how to actually remove the pin from the bushing? It's such a tight space, and I'm worried that if I reef too hard I'll do something I regret.
Thanks again,
David
