When you reassemble a spring/shock setup using the stock spring, after compressing the spring, how much do you tighten down the very top nut on the shock shaft to hold everything together? with old shocks there was an area of dirt where you could tell how far the nut was down on it but with new shocks, how can you tell?

 

I think all the way till there's no more thread left for the nut to keep on going.

 

dont know bout that. my stock ones werent tightened down that much.

 

on my coilovers i did them all the way.... remember you want the shock and spring to travel not the top hat bushings.

 

i was thinking just thread it on enuf to hold the entire assembly together then put it in the car. i figure once the car is on the ground the shock piston will raise thru the mount and then just tighten it down.

 

thats what your suppossed to do, when doing this i also think it helps align the strut for a proper working motion.
