Default whats the best half sized radiator I can get for my EG?

I want the best half sized radiator for my EG hatch. Its running a fully built 2.0 GSR with 20psi (peakboost setup) and a 110 octane mixture. I can't keep this baby under 220°F even with the fluidyne half radiator in 90+ heat.

I would like to know what other radiators I can get (thicker, more rows etc) or any other options I have. I really dont want to get a shorter manifold to run a full radiator... soo much work

i would start looking for other problems tha radiator. fluidyne should be able to handle the job just fine.

what coolant mixture are you running? have you tried water and water wetter?

the koyo radiator is bigger than the fluidyne but it sounds like you have other issues i would think

a lower temp thermostat and water wetter would be a good place to start, maybe consider a higher-pressure cap too?

just a thought, but if that doesn't help enough, maybe think about an oil cooler? i've seen several instances where adding an oil cooler helped lower coolant temps as well due to the lower strain on the cooling system to do all the work.

one of my fmic tanks covers about 1/4 of the radiator, and its bar/plate so hardly any air is getting to that thing. if i drive around with the hood popped, it stays cool.

the fluidyne is just a big single row isnt it? i thought it wasnt a big upgrade over stock.

my fan kinda sucks too... i might just try upgrading the fan, making a blockoff plate for the condenser side and running some water wetter.

I bought a PWR recently and I'm really happy with it. I had bad luck with C&R's quality and customer service. Even when comparing the radiators side by side, the PWR is much nicer.

This guy on a Ford Focus forum bought both the PWR and Fluidyne. He took some really great pics that should help you make your decision:

This website has good prices and shows details of the manufacturer's warranty:

I stayed away from Koyo because they don't have a warranty.

its a combination of alot of things, but i guarantee if i had a full sized radiator i would not be running 220° in traffic. A tiny bit more of cooling (like turning on the heat or popping the hood) keeps it right at 180-190°.

i have a higher idle because of my IM, my turbo and manifold are VERY close to my radiator, the small slimfan is mounted over to one side on the rad, the right side fmic tank covers 1/4 of the radiator, it hardly gets any flow anyways with the bar/plate design, its 95°F out with over 40% RH, the list goes on... AGH

although i think theres an underlying issue heres a few things you can do to maximize your cooling system now.

pusher fan
water and water wetter
lower temp thermostat
jump the thermostat fan switch so its always on or if your have control of it with your ecu do it that way
heat wrap downpipe

good luck

I had the same issues and was using an unshrouded fan on a Fluidyne(H22 in a 92 hatch). I changed to a FAL type fan (shroud covered the entire radiator) and the overheating disappeared. Good luck!

I would say make sure that you have bleed all the air out of your cooling systems. Ensure that you open the heater/have it on when you are filling the rad should help you get a little more water in there and help get some air out.

Jump your fan so that it stays on all the time especially if you are in stop and go traffic a lot.

One of the biggest issues we see are poor cooling fans. Remember the fan has to pull air through an Intercooler as well as a radiator. Put the strongest fan you can fit on there like a SPAL.

Thanks, ham!

drpoomanchu, I'm not going to argue with you about the quality of C&R. I used to think they were excellent, just like you. I do know that the SPAL fan that comes with it is not even close to 1600 cfm. It's more like 750.

ham, what size fan are you looking for?

Here's an awesome fan:
Perm-19008, CFM 1650, Summitt $96.00.

Just make a shroud for it and your good to go.

i think i want to get a FAL fan, i hear nothing but good things about them. the spal may pull 1600, but it pulls 1600 from air all over, i definitely need a shroud!

My roomate had the same setup in a heavier DC chassis Integra, he ran a single core OEM radiator out of a CX with no problems whatsoever.

There was a bit more room in the front end of his Integra than you have in the front end of your Civic, which as these other guys have pointed out REALLY helps with airflow. You have to keep in mind that if you are going 100 mph down the road the airspeed behind your IC is in the 11-13 mph range... if the radiator is sandwiched right behind the IC, that is your problem.

There is also the possibility of headgasket or other cooling (thermostat) issues, so keep your eyes peeled.

FAL and SPAL fans are overpriced. There are other good brands like the one mike1114 mentioned.

Since you've mentioned that a little more cooling would keep the temps down, a really quick and cheap fix is to add some hood vents. On my Integra, I peeled out the weather moulding near the firewall and it gave some room for heat to vent out when sitting in traffic.

If you ever decide to yank out the turbo/manifold, etc.. get them ceramic coated for sure.

i'm running a C&R halfsize and a spal slim fan. worked great on the old setup-ls turbo, even had to cut the fan to fit the turbo lol

like most people have already commented your current fan and rad should be more than up to the task. 2 things that pop to mind are a small oil cooler (pref with thermostat) and/or keeping underhood temps lower. examples: turbo blanket, heat shield for exh mani, header wrap, vents, ducting, etc.
