transmission leak

i have a 1993 civic lx and the transmission looks like its leaking by where the axle slips into the transmission, is there a seal there that could have went bad? It is a 5 speed manual transmission.

yes, its called an axle seal. Pretty easy to replace, just pull the axle, pull the old one out and put a new one in.

be careful when you pull out the axle to not damage it. You don't want to pull on the cv axle itself, but you want to use a small pry bar to break it loose (gently). There's plenty of DIY's on H-T if you need more info.
