Default Best ITR cams and cam gears

I plan on doing some head work to my JDM Type R head. I was looking at some cams and cam gears. Any feedback on some of the best choices I have? Thanks

Buy a PR3 head (B16/B17/P73, they're all the same) for $300-$1,000 pending on items included/which casting, send that off to get ported, and put your new headpackage in that. Save your stock Type-R head as a spare, or sell it for a nice amount. Since Type-R heads are all PR3, as are B16 and B17 heads, no one would really tell the difference. And since you're sending it off to get reworked, it'd just make more sense to spend $300 on a bare B16 head to have reworked.

As for cam gears, if you're running any kind of fuel management with the ability to pull timing, don't even bother with cam gears, just stay with stock. As for cams, it's a world of opinion out there, you're pretty much getting recommendations and personal tastes when you ask a question like this.

What are your goals for the car? ***** out race car? Rough street car? Mild street car? Daily driver?

Give some more information so we can suggest the cams that would be best for you.

Oh, and in the future, use the SEARCH function.

if its me. this is what i would do.
do a baseline dyno with what you have now.
worked the head and use stock valvetrain, cams, and adj gear.
with hondata or others do a baseline then tune.
now you have base guide on your goal aka make more power. now this is just me. sometimes with parts you have you can still pust for little more power.

yeah, this is a pretty vague question.

i've been through tons of cams and expensive bolt-ons.

learn from my mistake and keep it simple; do what go-fight-kill said and get a stock b16 head ported. Then move all your itr internals over to that. use some killer bolt-ons (mugen intake, ported edelbrock performer x intake manifold, smsp, hytech, rmf, dtr, etc header; and 2.5" exhaust). You should be able to top 190whp with stock cams like that. of course you'll want adjustable cam gears and something to tune with like a chipped p28 or p72 with crome or neptune, hondata, etc.

if you're still stuck on needing cams after all that then take a trip over to the allmotor forum. there is no set of cams that is 'best' - there are tons that make power, and how and where they make it varies from grind to grind.

Thanx for the feedback guys. I dont know if I want to go into buying the new head though. I mean it makes sense, but I just want to do something minor, not too much. But I will DEFINITELY look into for the near future. Thanks And as for "Go-Fight-Kill", your right, I should have been more specific.... see the thing is I have a 2000 Honda Civic SI with a GSR block, JDM Type R head, Type R internals, and Type R tranny... I bought the car like this and have done some minor adjustments to it, but want to do some of my own work that I prefer. The head came with OBX cam gears from previous owner, but I want to try some different ones... As far as bolt ons: Jasma Header, Omni Power test pipe, Apexi WS2 exhaust, AEM cold air intake, Greddy oil catch box. I dont want an all out race car, the car runs strong as it is and its my daily driver, I just want a little more push out of it just for the fun of it

hey, we were all new once too!

judging by your mods, i'd suggest you get BETTER parts. cams won't help you too much, but the bolt-ons I already suggested will. i understand you don't want to mod the head and that's fine, but that's where the power is. you can still make more power than what you have now by getting the parts I mentioned and TUNING.

So you have your original unmolested head to either resell, or just hang onto as a decorative wall piece for the living room.

Dude, it's only another $300 for a bare B16 head, just do that.
