PR3 Pistons: OEM vs Nippon vs RS Machines vs Hastings
I am looking for PR3 pistons to put in a b18a block as I am doing a non-vtec build. Other than oem, I have found a few companies who make them too. I am looking for cast pistons. OEM are the most expensive of the four choices I have. Which ones do you recommend.
Oem: about $250usd including wrist pins and rings
Nippon Racing: $132.95usd including wrist pins and rings
RS Machines: $149.99 including wrist pins and rings
Hastings: $139.99 including rings (not sure if wrist pins are included) i hope so
Please post your experiences and comments too.

look at my sig. i have nippon pr3 in my b18b setup. i just installed it on 7/7/07 and went smooth. i broke it in for the first 20 miles and drove hard the next 200 miles. what ever companie u go with the pr3 will be a very nice add on. u have 135 posts so i dunno if u knew this or not but just wanted to remind u that u do need to use the rods from the b18b/a motor. have fun with ur setup.
You can't go wrong with either brands, because all those piston brand -except oem, you listed are provided by NOA (Nippon of America). RS Machines uses Hasting Rings so Hasting basically sells the same pistons as RS.

Am I correct in assuming that you don't need to machine LS rods?
What are you putting down with your setup?

Yes, they do come with wrist pins and rings.

If your using forged rods, you will have to get the pistons machined for wrist pin locks. Those aftermarket rods have floating pin bushings and the oem rods are press fit.
sorry it took me so long to answer ur question...u do not need to modify the pistons to work. gsr,ctr,itr...u do thats why people gp with pr3/p30...no mods

I have a set of Arias forged rods that I will be using. The guy that I bought them from said that they are for LS and don't require anything special to use them with PR3 pistons. Does this make sense?

Don't think they'll be plug and play with OEM style pistons. I have no experience with these rods but think they would made for aftermarket forged pistons with floating wrist pin.
Give Arias a call or email and ask them to verify.

if your useing aftermarket forged rods you need to either run forged pistons or else get your pistons machined to accept circlips
