Default s2k antenna conv. a success!

to all planning on getting an s2k antenna for their itr:

1. buy the oem s2k antenna mast from your local honda dealer
2. im RStoR for the s2k conversion kit (pioneered by Asahi )
3. install!

i must say, that it's one of the coolest upgrades so far. so easy and so clean. i recommend it to anyone...all for a total of $35.

i wish i owned a digicam to display but i don't...so you'll just have to install one yourself and take it from there.

RStoR has a patent on the kit now?

Chris is the man patient enough to reproduce the kit I invented. I just couldn't find the time or patience to make them so I just wrpote a how to and Chris picked up the slack.

didn't mean to put it that way...now that i remember, the kit instructions actually credits you for the design. to ya for the inception and creation of the conversion!!!

Reception

If only I could find a signal booster or reception amplifier of some sorts... Anyone have any ideas?

All you have to do is add a home radio antenna to the kit and the reception is back to normal. I have had this since I came up with the kit design. Went about a week with weak reception and found that the antenna alone restored the reception.

please please elaborate on this, possibly a mini-how-to and exactly what parts you used. Do you mean from a stereo that little O-shaped plastic thing with wire going around it? help!

On the lower part of the threaded piece all you do is connect a home stereo antenna. This gives the kit more antenna for reception. You just wind the stereo antenna up in the plastic panel and it will boost reception.

I have never taken pics of this but I wil try one day soon for everyone using my kit.

alex,

do yaa want mre than the description below? I will try and get some pics and details for you guys if you all want them

THe antenna is the clear, long, plastic antenna with 2 copper wires in them. TO be honest a LONG piece of speaker wire should work just as well.

Asahi,

Thanks for the descrip, I'm gonna go see If i've got a spare antenna lying around and i'll just mess around with it w/ the radio on.

One more Q - is it safe to have the car on with the radio on and to mess around with all the wires? Or should I play it safe

Alex - who is determined to have GOOD reception by the end of the day when he takes his girl out!!

I am not sure how safe messing with the wires is but adding wiring to the antenna piece should be ok. Stick some speaker wire to the bottom part of the threaded piece and see if reception doesn't jump.

ALso, I have tried a few signal boosters and all tey do is boost the volume (STATIC and all).

I just installed my s2k antenna a few days ago. Got my kit from Rstor I love the way it looks but the reception isn't that great.

How about a shorter antenna, like a Audi TT or the new S500 Mercedes sedans have on the top of the rear glass?

Those are not radio antennas. They are for the navigation and road side asistance services. The newer Mercedes all do not have external antennas for the radio.

Well, I went at my antenna earlier today. It seemed like it was just the contact between the stock female plug and "kit" male connector that was messing things up... So I shoved some copper in there hooked up to a huuuuge loom of it and electrical taped the copper in with the connectors, then just zip tied the loom with all the other electrical stuff.. Reception is 10 X better now, still not at the level of, lets say my mom's '01 neon but its alot better than nothing..

I did what Trey said, and wired the white wire you get with a home reciever to the same spot that the coax cable connects too. I ran the wire up the rear pillar(under the plastic) and under the roof liner to where the rear window squirter is, and the reception is now as good as stock.

If you get almost no reception, you shoudl check the actaul atenna connections on the kit. If it recieves decent but not as well as it used to I would suggest making sure the additional antenna was connected well. I have never had any trouble getting most common stations without additional antenna and have restrored 99% reception on all cars I have installed them on with the addition of the extra antenna.
