1993 accord EX- Brake pedal feels soft and steering shaking problem
Hi,
I am totally new here and excuse me if I am not posting in right forum or something.
I have couple of issues with my 1993 accord Ex 4dr.
1. Brake pedal feels soft sometimes, not always. I feel like it is traveling a little more. It does not go all the way to floor. But I have driven other cars of my friends but nowhere I have seen such brake travel. If I pump it, it feel good again. I had it bled recently but it did not improve much. Can anyone tell me any suggestions?
2. While driving, I feel that steering wheel shakes. I had resurfaced brake rotors if that was the issue but that is not the case. So can be something else. May be wheel balancing?? The steering wheel also feel little harder than other cars(like my friend's camry). There is some vibration in the car even when it is parked.
Any ideas, please?

1.) the brake thing, not too sure on.
2.) Your wheel is shaking, cuz of your tire balancing. get em balanced and it should stop. The other vibration, is mayb a hose line hitting the steering column. That was happing to mine awhile ago, i got a 95 Accord Ex. so yea

He said that he already had the brakes bled. If all the sliders on the calipers are moving freely, its possible that you have a bad Brake Master cylinder and its leaking small ammounts of pressure back into the resivoir, thus giving a softer pedel. Or, it is quite possible that that you have a strong brake booster. I have the same problem with my car, i'm going to change the booster probably next week at work. i've driven hundreds of accords and alot of them have soft brake pedels, so as long as there are no leaks, and its stopping well, its not a huge deal.
As for the shaking, tire balancing could be an issue. However, when you get the tires balanced, have the tech check the front end of the car to make sure that there is no play in the front suspension that could also cause a vibration.
The shaking when the car is stoped could be a rough idle due to a vacuum leak, or possibly your IACV and FITV may need to be adjusted. If you dont know how to adjust them, just do a quick search on them and you will find the DIY thread about it.

Are you saying that I have any hoses loose and it is hitting steering? What should I check exactly?
I will do tire balancing. What you guys mean by play in suspension?
So, generally accord brake pedal is softer than others? Is that right? How can I check master cylinder if it is bad? You know the brake pedal is little higher(may be an inch or so) than the accelerator pedal at normal condition. So, when I push brake, it travels to the same level as accelerator before it holds the brake. In other cars I saw that brake hold as soon as I just touch or gently push the brake pedal. So this extra push in my car made me thinking if this is something I should worry about. Brake is a prime safety thing and i feel worried for this.

if the pedal travels as hard as far as the accelerator, then you have a problem. assuming that the car was bled properly, the porblem lies in the master cylinder.

Nothing is hitting the steering. Jack up the front to the car. Grab the wheel at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock postions and try to rock it back and forth. It shold be tight. If it does slightly rock back and forth, there are 3 things that it could be. Upper balljoint, wheel bearing or lower balljoint. After you do that, grab the wheel at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock position and wiggle it from side to side. Once again, it should be firm, but if there is some play, it will be in the inner or outer tie rods.
If any components seem to have play in them, replace then and have an alignment done after.
Vacuum hoses run into the intake manifold. if the hoses are cracked or rotten, they can suck additional air into the intake manifold which will increase the cars idle, but the ECU wants to keep the idle as low as possible, so sometimes it causes a shake. Same thing applies for the IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) and the FITV (Fast Idle Thermo Valve).
