Wow the Kakimoto sounds good. I actually hear the engine more than the exhaust. Very nice Does the Kakimoto have dual resonators?

Very nice.

I have been sold on the Kakimoto-R for awhile now.

Maybe I missed a PIC or some info but, which model# cat did you use? I have a Carsound 94006 and was told that the KakimotoR is a little too long for install to my cat.

2 solutions were suggested; Another shorter model Carsound cat made for the older OBD1 GSR or cutting the b pipe before the flange and rewelding it...

Please explain more, I am very interested in that catback.

If I wasn't on a crappy dialup, I could have already heard your new noise.

Looks great, good luck.

A.

how long did it take you to install? i'll be doing about the same thing in about a week or so, w/ a type one cat-back(as long as it gets here on time)

Yes, the Kakimoto R for Type R will bolt on to the older model GSR, so the carsound cat made for GSR should be a perfect fit as long as it is 2.5".

Kakimoto Racing also have a catjack(looked similar to the Spoon catjack that was discontinued.) available that will make this exhaust a bolt on for both TypeR and GSR.

So JDM header + Old GSR length 2.5" Cat + Kakimoto DC2R Catback = perfect fitment?

im no exhaust expert or a thermal dynamics guru, but dont you think that the kakimoto exhaust is to big? i mean assuming if you go just with ihe and leave the internals alone...i remember in a post that the smallest ID point in the exhaust was 2.5 and the biggest ID was 2.75?? i think im not sure so dont quote me.

just wondering, cos i need an exhaust soon so i can install my header. thanks!!

I am not an exhaust expert too, but Kakimoto Racing did put in a lot of time and money on R&D before they come out with this or any other exhausts. So I would think they made it 70mm for a reason, and that is because it give the best power gain.

im sure they did. im not disputing that fact, but just wondering if the kakimoto is too big. i mean if the smallest ID of the b-pipe is 2.5 and the largest is bigger...

i spoke to someone at Thermal and they refered me to there exhaust fabricator and they said that an ID of 2.5 is just too big if you are not going to upgrade the internals.

and i am sure there are alot of people who have there own opinions on this matter, but just wanted to let you know what a professional in the exhaust field said.

i would sure like to see some dyno plots of the kakimoto. because i need an exhasut bad!!! i really want to install my header and get my hooptie running!!!

anyway just wondering...and by the way i really dont like the tip, can you remove that bad boy??.

This system was design to bolt on to the stock ITR in Japan, so I am sure Kakimoto Racing did some testing and found out 70mm work better than 60mm for this system. In fact, all other Kakimoto Racing exhausts for ITR are 60mm.

For sure you can remove the outer tip, but it will look weird if you do so, because the tip will be so far away from the bumper.

If you like small tip, may be you will like the new Kakimoto GT1.OZ lightweight catback. The tip size is around 3".

Top one is for DC5 and bottom is for EK Civic. The DC2 one look very similar.

Here is a prototype pictures of the GT1.OZ on a Type R. The final product will look very close, but with some minor changes.
