Ive just bought a '91 honda prelude vtec im new to hondas and damn do i love the vtec

Anyway, on my auto gear lever it has a "sports mode" switch and a little light next to the gear numbers on the dashboard.

What is this? activate lsd? traction control?

i have no clue. hope some1 can help!

If its anything like my old accord sports mode shifts at a higher rpm.

Maybe it's like overdrive where it just shifts at a higher RPM.

 

I dunno where you are from... But VTEC's didn't come in the Prelude until '93 for the US, and '91 for Japan I believe.. I'm not sure about other countries.. So unless you have a H22 Swap in there...

And I haven't heard of any "Sport Mode" in a Prelude besides the 5thGen "Sport Shift" which is an Auto Tranny that can be "shifted" ***like*** a stick shift..

So I dunno...

 

VTEC was available straight from 91 onwards in many countries outside the US, I know it definitely was in the UK anyway. The sports mode button on the auto models does indeed just let the engine rev a little higher before it changes gear.

My brother has a sport button too.....I'm pretty sure that it stiffens the suspension! If not then, my next guess would be shortened gears.....

 

how can u stiff a suspension by a button?
