? how important is the snap ring on the counter shaft balance????
i have been trying to hours and hours and can not seem to get the snap ring on the counter shaft balance bearing.
Do you guys think it will be o.k.????

no it will not be ok. It has to be clicked into place or damage will happen. Most of the times a simple pry up top with a long straight screwdriver will work. If not, then tip the tranny at a downward angle and rap on the bellhousing side of the case with a rubber or plastic mallet.

no, the gears wont have the proper clearances, and when you snap the ring in, it makes the countershaft even with the main shaft.

i look at it this way. if you cannot get the snap ring locked in, you probably have something else going on wrong. try to figure it out now before it goes in and you tear something up

werd. Sometimes I also turn the tranny upside down on an old phone book and bump the tranny a couple times and it will fall into place.

Make sure your input shaft bearing is correct too

mr choi, all you have to do is when you have everything in place, and the case is on, take a flat head and place it between the 32mm nut and the bearing, and open the clip, and pull up on the screw driver prying against the side of the opening as leverage. it doesnt take much effort so dont be forcing anything it should just slide right in.
what happens is there is a couple of thousandths of space from top to bottom of the ring gear. so thats why it is important for that snap ring to be in place to move the counter shaft away from the ring gear and vise versa.

I've done that too. and still do sometimes. I did assume he had already tried that and there was no way in hell he could get the snap ring back on
