battery screwed???
My battery has acid coming out of the posts at the top. It happens after the car has been ran for a while, and it leaks down the side of the battery, getting all over everything like my rad hose and wires. If the voltage regulator on the alternator is screwed, could this be overcharging the battery, and would it cause the battery to boil over and bubble acid out of the top? or is the battery dead? acid everywhere! HELP! should I change the alternator, or the battery??
so you got it up and running sweet. As far as the battery, get a sealed gell cell type battery, then you dont have to worry about the acid leaking and the corrosion and all that crap from regular lead acid batteries.
So you are having some idling issues with the y8? I did originally, had a small vacuum leak. It would surge at idle from 800-1200. I sealed it up and it went away, I have another vacuum leak, where i mounted the intake temp sensor there is a small air leak so it is surging again.
As for testing your alt, go to any battery shop they will usually test your alt while in the car/running for free. I know sears charged like 5 bucks to check it out.

yeah it sounds like your voltage regulator in the alt is shot and is cooking the battery quite nicely, if you're looking to save a buck I'd swap the alt first and see how the battery holds up but its likely gone if this has been happening for awhile

put a voltmeter across the battery when the car is running. as long as its not over 14v, your alt is fine. but you're saying its leaking from the posts? that doesnt sound right. if anything, it should be venting from the caps on top. if its coming out of the posts then its time for a new battery.
good luck

Yeah, I meant to say venting from the caps. sorry for the misunderstanding. Well, I swapped another alternator in that I know is good, and the same problem happened again. Not only that, I got the first alt. tested, and it's fine... the battery tested good as well. However, today I noticed that the cells were pretty full. I think they were too full, actually. So i took a bunch of the acid out and we'll see what happens. Maybe it was just boiling over because there is too much acid inside? I'll wait and see. thanks guys
