Default Speed Star Racing...

Any of you guys running the 16x7 SSR Competitions. I'm going to put in a order at Tirerack.com next week, but I'm not sure if I really want them or not. I priced them with shipping to come out a little more than $1600 with Yokahama Parada Spec II's. Are the Yoka Spec II's a good street tire? This setup will be mainly used for the street by the way. Any pics???

If you are not familiar with the wheels: Forged wheel at 11lbs.

good light wheel, but not as strong as most folks think. a friend with an E30 M3 destroyed two 17" comps, on the street.

I run the 15x7.5 and no problems yet. I think the 16x7 will be a great choice, but I haven't seen them on an R personally.

Do you specifically ask for the 16's from tirerack? On the website they say they only have them in 15'' 17'' and 18''s. Im probably gonna be buying these this summer. either these or the Type C's. But i cant find the type C's anywhere.

16x7 would be nice on an ITR, tirerack doesnt carry those yet though, as far as i know...

as for the strength, more than a few bmws i know of have bent rims, mostly 17" and up with low-pro tires, probably a factor in the bending.

Yea, 16x7 is def. the size that I want to get...except the order will not be shipped until after the 20th of June b/c of backorder or something(which sucks). I'm just not sure on the tire selection...

For $1200+ wheels...I hope that they hold up

The Competitions are the Type C's. If you want them in 16" you will have to have them imported.

These rims look great. I am interested on the SSR Type C's but my JDM friend told me that their quality is not as good as Volk or Advan in respect to manufacturing and strength

Has anyone heard the same?

Finish is fantastic; my Type R rims still look like new

Plenty durable too, running on super stiff Zeal coilovers on the street for over 1 yr. with no problems.

Check out the NEW SSR Wheel called the Professor; looks like the Work Meister S1, and is available in Jet Black

Saw a set on a Silvia S15 a few days ago when passing thru JDM Heaven

Granted this doesn't have anything to do with how they hold up on the street, but if they're good enough for these guys...

The Prada is a SHOW tire. That is a quote from the Yokohama catalog. DNA's are a better choice.

I am realistic, he hit some of those little pimples they put at turn abouts and what not. one rim was a total loss, another was repairable. not sure about the tire pressure.

just saw this:
Quote from Will Turner of Turner Motorsports:
"While we are speaking of rims. We used the SSR
Competitions on our World Challenge cars last year
and it was a HUGE mistake. They are light, real light,
but they would bend under stress, not hitting things but
normal track use. SSR made modifications to them mid season
but that did not help. We ruined 40 wheels..."

evidently they threw away 40 wheels....

Have had mine for almost 2 years and have beaten the **** out of them..on Japanese Roads.!

Plus I was able to get 4 rims and tires with Yokohama M7R's (A520's) for about 1200$ for the 16x7 and 205/45/16

hmmm...that's not too good. I'm def. not going to spend $1200 on wheels that may not hold up. I may have to look into the Kosei K1's...

Do you have pictures of your car with the 15x7.5 SSR Competitions? Interested in the same setup but am wondering how they look like on an ITR.

I love my SSRs. They have held up to HARD driving on Brooklyn (possibly the worst in the country) roads for 6 months so far on my GSR.
