My family puts on an anual drag race at an airstrip...need some help w/track prep and sensor mountin
I need to know what is the proper way to "prep" a drag strip. Currently it's a Tarmac surface w/4 days drag racing rubber on it spaced over 4 years. (not much imo) we use VHT every year, but launching/traction is TERRIBLE. Does someone know the step by step process of building a NICE surface from scratch? The strip is composed of tar and aggregate(rocks)...IE Tarmac. No concrete.
Also I'm building the timing system. I got some nice Retroreflective IR sensors from Banner Engineering QS30LLP

I'm curious as to exactly how high they need to be mounted in order to get the cars and the bikes? just under 3"
Thanks in advance...I've got a pretty nice budget this year for track prep so lmk whats the best way to get it done

You can drag some old tires down the track. that will lay down some rubber. Do that repeatedly. Also GALLONS of Grape soda works really good on a track as well. Almost better the VHT.
Thats just a trick they used to do in the old days. And the tire dragging is still being used today.

I know the tire trick works wonders, we've used old tractor tires at our local track before, be forewarned though, you need a fairly big truck to pull it off. Try and keep the speed up as much as possible, once the tires get hot they start to stick and smoke a bit. But that just means it's working
