another newbie question: 04 civic gas door and trunk lock issues
while i'm at it, the interior gas door opener no longer works, so I have to open it manually by opening the trunk and yanking the opener cable from behind the gas cap, and incidentally the trunk no longer closes securely...when it seems to be closed, I can open it by using a little upward force. somtetimes it opens while the car is in motion.
i guess this is a trip to the shop, but wondering if anyone has had this issue and if there's an easy/cheap fix. '04 civic EX sedan. never been in an accident afaik.

How can I tell if its working or not? When i push in the lock with like my finger the trunk light shuts off. But the trunk just wont close. This is on my 01 btw.

I think I misunderstood your problem, sorry. Eitherway, it's still most likely the arm causing the trunk to not close properly.
The latch isn't broken, but if the cable snapped the arm isn't where it's supposed to be. You will probably have to use a screwdriver to put the arm back to where it should be manually until you can get your cable issues resolved.

Your talking about the arm in the latch? Still can't figure it out.
Right now the trucnk won't shut and its as if the trunk opener was stuck on the up, pulling, position and when you return it to the normal position that is when the trunk was able to be close.
Here's a pic:

So the fueldoorfix will work for me? or will i need a new latch and cable. I think i just messed up the latch even more. There is not "springiness" in it.

Yeah i was thinking the same thing, Well i emailed the guy and showed him my pic and he said that his product will not fix my broken cable. That I need to buy a new cable. So right now the trunk is closed by cargo springs, or whatever they are callled.

If you were to look at the cable itself, there's a metal clip around the cable and a rubber grommet inside the casing. As time goes on, they begin to separate, causing casing flex (eliminates tension on the cable). The plastic piece they send you locks the two together, and keeps the cable tensioned.
