Default N00b question for first bike

I just purchased my first bike, a 2000 yzf600r. So it's been raining recently and I didn't get a chance to purchase a cover. I noticed the other day that there was some sort of orange/rust like residue on my chain, the owner said he just replaced the chain. There is no cover for the chain because i think the previous owner broke it. I can easily scrath it off so my question is if its actually safe for a bike to be out in the rain and should I be worried about the residue? For all i Know it could just be clay dirt or something, TIA.

Get a bike cover or watch it turn orange. As for he chain get a rag and wipe all the crap off of it then spray with lube and leave it overnight.

its called rust lol your chain has iron in it and it rusts in rain. Lube that **** up and get a cover or be prepared to have a rusty chain. Its mostly just surface rust so its not a big deal, just dont let it happen a lot or it can deteriate the integrity of the chain.

GL!

Soak it in diesel overnight. Better to replace it TBH
