Default NEWBIE OWNER OF A H22 ACCORD, SOME QUESTIONS.

Please forgive me if this belongs in the Accord forum, I thought it would make more sense here. I have been proud owner of a 1995 Accord 4-door with JDM 1992-1993 H22A, LSD trans for two weeks now. I did not do the swap, I jsut got someone elses project which has been passed around to three people including me since the orginal guy swaped the motor. Here are my concerns.

1) the car eats gas, it is running rich, I have black smoke out the exhaust, the spark plugs tell stories of carbon. I suspect the P28 ECU in it (I dont think it is mapped for the H22) It used to have a P72 (gsr) but it got traded out along the way . I also suspect the air intake which is not plugged into any sensors, I think the intake came form a civic as well. Any ideas?

2) What OBD is the accord? the motor? if it is running a P28/P72 does that mean it has been changed?

3) I need a mellow sounding muffler, the car has a 2.5 inch catback system. I do mean mellow, untill high RPMS. Any ideas?

4) the car has intake, header (DC), and Exhaust, I have about 1500 in the budget for all-motor (no turbo) whats the best bang for the buck HP project I can undertake?

Thank you all!!!

If its running on a p28 or p72 ecu, i sure as hell hope its chipped and tuned in some way. ask the original owner how it was tuned, crome, uberdata, hondata, ebay chip etc. If he tells you its a regular oem p28, stop driving the car.

2) What OBD is the accord? the motor? if it is running a P28/P72 does that mean it has been changed?

A 95 accord and a JDM H22A are both OBD1. It needs to be OBD1 in order to utilize most engine tuning software.

I liked my rs*r exmag catback exhaust. Ive also heard that the apexi ws2 is mellow. search for some soundclips and see what you like.

Spend the money getting the car running correctly first and make sure youre up to date on all the preventative maintenance. As far as best bang for the buck performance wise, search the faq's, its been beaten to death.

Thank you all!!!</TD></TR></TABLE>

I cant contact the original owner, the car was bought in Jacksonville already with the swap and mods. I know the P28 is not reccomeneded if its not mapped, but the car runs great, just rich. What determental things can it do if its not mapped ie. what do I look for? I contacted the guy that has the P72, he traded the P28 with the owner before me, he couldnt give me a straight answer if it was mapped or not, but it is chipped with no limiter (which is useless IMO). Would this cause my car to run rich? what about the intake situation?

so what Im looking for is an OBD 1 P13 ECU to tide me over untill I can get a P72/hondata setup?

as for the last question, I have full intentions of getting the car where it needs to be first, I jsut wanted an idea of what I need to look at for the future. I will read FAQs ect.

thanks bro

Why not just find a cheap VAFC and buy cams.....spend the leftovers on tuning.
The other option would be finding a used Hondata S100......

I have a V-tech controller. It makes vetch at 5500 I dont know how to use it though, these setiings we set before I got the car/ Are you implying a non-mapped P28 is safe as long as I have that or something?

Should be fine.....I have tested a P28/P72 and several P13's on the dyno before.
