Default Transmission carnage pictures...

The final drive, see the small quarter-tooth chip? That's what caused the mayhem...

Countershaft pictures... Not too hard to tell what's wrong here...

The major chunks the magnet caught...

Once again, thanks to REDLINE for taking care of this so quickly.

Nope, threw a used final drive and countershaft in... The damn car's never been so quiet, and so smooth. Definately fixed the problem.

Came out of this for VERY cheap. The only parts I had to buy were two bearings that took a beating (Can't remember which), and an oil seal (Along with 3 quarts of MTF), so the parts were only $113. Not bad.

I wish i had pics of my old tranny out of my Si. My counter-shaft was missing entire fins. I actually punched a hole right through my casing. I had chunks very similar to yours, but in a much larger quantity

I guess you gotta retract your statement now about the ACT clutch.

Glad you got everything sorted out

x2

My new clutch revealed a weak input shaft bearing. I'm in the process of taking it apart. I don't know what else to expect since I know my reverse gear has been feeling strange too.

Remember folks...

It's down the river, not across the tracks...

Glad to hear it wasn't so bad. How did the rest of the gears look? Did you take everything apart? Syncro's and all? I'd be curious how the surface of the syncro's looked.

No visible damage to the syncros or any other gears. Lots of crap all through the trans tho. I tore every single piece down and cleaned them, even the cases were gross. It all worked out, hopefully thats the last time that trans has to be split. Glad it is fixed man.

If I'm already there, and it's coming out and apart... I'd be replacing every single wear item in there. I understand a crunch too.

Thanks again Red.

Yes, he replaced two bearings that probably took a beating. The transmission's SILENT now, I've never heard it so quiet in all my time of ownership.

As for the clutch. I believe the stock slipping burnt clutch was hiding the final drive's problem, when the stiff/notchy new clutch was install, it revealed the problem, and everything went to ****.

I'm just glad it was a cheaper fix than I was expecting.

Here's the original thread... Apparently, this incident caused everything. Notice the date on the first post, almost 14 months ago. Transmission held on as long as it could, tough little bugger.
