Default car cranks, starts, then dies out..need long crank

have to keep on cranking the car, and stepping on the gas to get the car started. after the first start, it starts fine after that but it sounds like it's getting ready to shut down though. IT does stay on however. not sure if it just needs maitence, since i just bought the car.

i'm planning on replacing the sparkplugs and wires.

how do i check if it's a bad cap or rotor on the dizzy?

is there anything else i need for maintence?

What year is the car and motor? If it is fuel injected, then stepping on the gas is going to do not much of anything since fuel is shot into the motor when you turn the key. So that part of your process is probably unneeded. Just do a full tune up. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter and call it a day.
