Default All season tire General UHP vs. Bridgestone VRI

I need an all season tire for my daily driver 1.6EL in a 195-55-15 configuration. This is just a commuter car so no autocrossing and such.. just the ocassional spirited drive.

Since I'm in Canada and tires are pretty expensive up here.. I've got 3 choices here which are reasonable in price.

Fuzion VRI ~ 480cdn installed
General UHP ~ 425cdn installed
512 Zeix ~ 425cdn installed

From what I gather reading countless posts.. the 512's are pretty crap.. decent when new and gets worse as they wear in.. so I'm not really considering them since it's the same price as the UHPs. I would like something that would last reasonably long ..

How do the UHP's compare to the VRI's? Are the VRIs worth the $55 difference?

The General UHP is a summer tire, not an all-season tire, so it is not a good choice for winter use. You will be using these tires during the winter as well as the rest of the year, correct?

Have you priced the Kumho ASX? It's far better than either of the all-season tires you mentioned, and might be the same price or less. (Talon sells them for CDN103 apiece in 195/55-15. Tire Rack sells them for USD65, but shipping and duty could offset some of the savings.) You can find your nearest Kumho dealer here.

Yes, that's my tire of choice.. but the cheapest I can get them taxes in and installed is 550 which is significantly more than all the others.

Talon is in Montreal and I'm in Toronto, with taxes and shipping, then the cost of install it's the same as buying them local.

Yes, looking for an all season tire. I'm having a hard time justifying putting more expensive tires on the EL than on my ITR (Azenis 615).

Have you tried checking prices at Tires 23 in Mississauga? I think old man neri has suggested them in the past to folks on here in TO.

Yea, that's their price. I can't find another place that can beat their price. As a matter of fact.. I think I might just spring the extra hundred bucks to get them. After driving with Azenis (2 sets of 215's and 2 sets of 615s) for the last 3 years it's hard to find anything thats even remotely close.

Perhaps they can cut me a better deal.. I just bought a set of Azenis off them a few months ago.

Sorry, haven't heard of them. Although seeing as I am living close to Toronto these days and no longer in the montreal area I might check them out.

Cheers.

Sorry for the mis-attribution. It might have been from 13inches in this topic. He also mentions Wheel and Tire Zone in Toronto, which also carries Kumho.
