Idle
Well, as many of you know, I'm running a D16Y8 engine with an OBD-I p28 ecu in my 89' CRX Si. Now, my problem is this: Sometimes the car idles erratically, and sometimes, for no apparent reason, the idle drops to about 250 rpm, then slowly chugs its way back up to 750, but it doesn't stall. What could be the problem here? I'm pretty sure all the vacuum lines are fine, so what else could it be? The ECU is throwing no codes at all... I think my old D16A6 used to do this as well, but to a lesser degree. Help?
Cheers,
Matt

Matt,
My y8 did this too for a short while, but it was from 800-1200 and was very spurratic at idle.
Everyone said check your vacuum lines etc, so i resealed where I mounted the intake temp sensor and messed with a few lines and it went away. Since I had the air intake tube rigged up temporarily, i had to reseal the intake temp sensor when I installed the CAI. Well I was out of silicone sealer that day and just plugged it in. It started surging again, so I need to seal it up. If i can talk my dad into carting my wheelchair into the car and running me up to the store one of these days, i may get some silicone and seal it up.
Is it only when the engine is cold, or does it still do it when it's warm? Mine does it no matter the temp of the engine....

Well, I plan on buying a short ram intake pretty soon... I'll also try teeing the vacuum port on the back of the intake manifold into something as well. I never used silicon sealer for my air intake temp sensor... I'll check to see if there are no air leaks in the intake tubing too. BTW, my car idles funny at all temperatures, but only occasionally.
thanks for the insight Steven.
