Recommended drag slick size
Hi all,
I'm investing in some wheels/slicks again here soon and am curious on everyone's opinion for the most beneficial combination.
Here are the current vehicle specs:
92 4dr Accord - sub-2500lbs
Turbo SOHC, roughly 315whp
stock axles, welded stock trans.
Competition 6puck unsprung clutch disc w/ stage 4 plate, 12lb flywheel
At first I was thinking about going with some 15"x10" wheels and a set of 26"x10"15" Mickey Thompson ET Drag slicks, but after some looking at other setups and number crunching I think my best best is to stick with a 15"x8" wheel and utilize the same brand slick but in a 24.5"x8"x15" size.
As a background, I was previously running too small wheels with 22"x8"x15" slicks, and that did nothing but spin in first and second gears. I believe mainly due to the sidewall of the slick being collapsed from the too small wheel width.
Does anyone have any input on the situation? I know there are not a lot of drag racing Accord, especially 4dr in this section, but wheels/tires are a semi-basic commodity as long as respective gearing is maintained.
Thanks for any responses!
Colin

After thought, I would agree that 26" is overkill.
So the factory overall diameter is just above 24", so a 23" slick should put it in that realm. If I were to get the 24.5" slick it would basically just help top end gearing slightly, am I wrong?

it will if you have the engine to carry it, on the b series, we usually run a 23" around 3-350 - 400 ish, above that, depending if it is for sfwd or now, if sfwd we are limited to a 25" i ran a 24.5 last year, and 25" this year. 16" will put you in the hot rod class.
Yea, I'm going to stick with some 15x8 wheels. It's just hard to choose by running it around the size of the slick since my options seem to be limited.
For the 15x8 it looks like a 24.5x8x15
For the 15x10 it looks like a 26x10x15
Choices for a 15x9 wheel are non-existent.
Thanks for the help!

last year, i was on a jdm 5 lug. stuck with 15" wheel. i went with 15 x 8 bogarts, with the 24.5 x 8.5 x 15 and went 10.72 with them. it can be done. you should be ok with the 24.5. they may hurt you a little, but if they are your only option, youll be fine.
